Live from the tree 2017 version

Well might have another saddle convert. I've been working my buddy over pretty hard about changing his game up. He hasn't been seeing any deer for weeks. Since he didn't have a way to go mobile I went out way to early this morning and got him set up in a hangon in another doe bedding area where I've seen a screwed up rack buck multiple times. I didn't want to throw him into the saddle without practice. So I was out to prove what I think I know and convince him to jump on board. _20171123_115918.JPG

And the plan worked. When I changed the way I hunt five or six years ago he didn't want to follow suit. Today he came back and wanted to sit in my saddle and talk about what to do next year.

Saw one little buck this morning. Drug this hard core hunter out of bed at 3:30 this morning. I don’t blame him if he would have stayed awake I probably would have took a nap

Live from the box blind with my 13 y/o in southern VA. 7 does but no bucks so far first half of day. Buck only today but either sex tomorrow - beauty of box blind hunts are the time with the kids, portable heaters and a lot more food than I could manage in a saddle to keep busy with LOL

21 deer seen this morning. Most were bucks but none were big enough for me to fling an arrow at. There were 4 bucks chasing 1 doe around for a few minutes.

Best hunt all year!

Saw one big 6pt. If he makes it will be a dandy in a few years. I had to leave early. Drove around for a few minutes seen probably 40 trucks in about 5 miles of road. I would bet he don’t make it. Lol

IMG_7574.JPG IMG_7575.JPG Finally got to try the Kestrel for about 3 hours. Pleasantly surprised at the comfort. Almost dozed off after hooking up the back rest. Wish I had longer to sit but next week I'll have more time.

A whopping one stick up, but I feel I am hidden and ready!

Sitting in a ground blind opening morning of rifle season with my 8 year old son. He has his index card and hole punch ready so he can mark how many dee we see.

I spend so much time chasing mature bucks, I need a day like today to remind me what hunting is really about. My son was so excited walking in this morning he couldn't stop talking, I enjoyed listening to him on the 20 min walk, more than I enjoyed my last 10 sits combined. My 16 yr old son is in a tree 200 yards away.

I’m in my saddle and 2 close shots ring out. So I text the neighbor asking if he was a big one. He says. Coyote missed twice at 600 yards ... 600? If you don’t see me checking in on the forum you will know why. Lol. I hope he knows where these rounds are ending up.

Gun season in full swing here in VA, which means heavy dog pressure. Cameras and time in the tree show mature deer have gone nocturnal. Gonna have to abandon pre sets and get in the gnarly spots.

Having a rough season. Clean miss on a doe at last light. She just stood there for a bit then my hunting partner spooked her. No blood. Tough times around here. Going to have someone bore sight my gun and then go to the range and make sure scope is still on. I know it was a mistake but haven't shot it at all this season. Just glad it was a clean miss.

If it’s a bolt action just pull the bolt and put it on a rest set a target up or look at a can or anything through the center of the barrel. Then look through the scope and see if it’s close. I have always gotten it as close that way as letting someone bore sight it.

I may do that. Whatever I can do the fastest. Want to get back out Friday and Sat as that ends our gun season.

Hate to sound like the guy that blames his equipment but that is the first time I have shot at an animal with a rifle and missed or not killed it. It is the fist time I have shot it in a while. I may have done something funky anticipating the shot.

NJ muzzleloader in the Guidos Web. Still no points on the board for team one from me.
