How much of a PITA is it to get on APH?
It’s not bad. Can’t access if you are a convicted felon, domestic violence conviction in last 10 years, or game law convictions. You have to submit a form for a background check and register your weapons each year. Once that is complete you do everything else such as area reservation and check in/out via an App on your phone or computer. Great place to hunt but it’s a learning curve. As it’s a training facility for all forces, you never know what areas will be open til the evening prior. Need to have several alternative spots and not lock down on just one area. Ultimately, it’s restricted access public. I spend several weeks off and on in the on-base campground.

This was my second year down there. Honestly it's been a struggle for me for deer but I also haven't just focused on it either. I tend to fall back on other spots that I've been hunting for a long time and know them well. All of my off season scouting last year ended up being closed most of this season. I did manage to shoot my first deer down there this year in one of the archery only areas. I love that you are allowed to drive some of the roads to pick up a deer though, would of been a long drag otherwise. Lots of game wardens but so far they've all been very nice and helpful.

Anybody know the correct way to sign in right now for scouting? The regs say you can scout right now but there's only small game hunting when you try to check in. I really want to hit some more archery only areas but the way the regs are written, if you are signed in hunting, you must have a weapon but they turn around and say if you are scouting you can't have one. Last year I just signed in small game hunting and carried a 20 gauge but I don't want to carry a bow all day in the archery areas...

Isportsman is supposed to match the regs but it doesn’t always. Contact game check or the game wardens. They will let you know. I’m going to try to get up there in a few weeks. I like to stomp around a bit this time of year. Might smack a few squirrels. Which bow area did you hunt?

Thanks. I hunted several but the deer came from 24A (a 6pt, pic in the contest thread somewhere).

Great area. I’ve spent a lot of time in there. Unfortunately the 24’s were closed a lot this past season. That’s normally not the case.

I was reading regulations yesterday and if you follow them to the letter regarding stands and TMA certs etc it would appear a saddle is a violation.

Don't ask too many questions. I've talked to GWs while wearing my saddle and they didn't say anything but I'm not going to ask either.

I’ll reach out to the wildlife branch. If I recall at least one of guys in the wildlife branch is a saddle hunter. I think the TMA thing is to discourage diy stands and limit any perceived liability to the Army. I probably find/see the remains of at least one old wooden stick built stand in those woods every outing. I found this one and another one like it the last week.

Yeah somewhere on that 70k acres. Don’t ask me, I’m still trying to learn that place.

I've never been. I've thought about Quantico a few times. Some rules are just too strict though. If you shoot a deer at dusk with a bow chances are you're leaving it until the morning because you have to be out and hr after shooting light. That's my walk in more then likely. Yotes would have deer chewed next morning, so the deer died for nothing. Is that a problem on AP? The yotes and time restriction?
