Welcome! I'm up in Cecil county also.

I would also recommend just staying with your sticks for now and get your self in a saddle and get comfortable with it. Once you get a system down then the fun part of experimenting with new climbing methods.

Right now I’m leaning towards keeping the sticks and adding some Amstel continuous loops to the bottom of them to use with a k/s. I’d prefer to do all my tinkering now while I’ve got the time so it’s dialed in before the next season rolls around. We all know how fast that happens

Your not far. Well my dad lives in eldersburg and it takes me 30 min to get there. If your interested, (before you buy other things) ill meet up with you. You can try out some gear etc..I have been saddle hunting since 2005 so I have some stuff.

Appreciate the offer. I’ll keep that in mind

I’ve experimented a lot and just keep coming back to sticks. They just work for me. I’ve been in at least 250 different trees I’d guess with climbing sticks so I really trust them. I think I could climb with sticks blindfolded if I needed to at this point. Right now I’m using LW sticks that I cut down to 24” with an @DanO doublestep on top. I’m right at 7lbs. Including straps. With rope mod or amsteel you could cut that down further. Also using a moveable one step aider that stays in the pouch with my tether and lineman’s. Getting 18-20’ out of that setup.

I’ve got full length helium’s with the ropemod and I agree about being super comfortable with them. I’m hoping to try out the Amsteel loops on the bottom of them combined with the knaider swaider for my last couple sits of the season to see how I like it. I feel like I should be able to get 7 per stick with that which would put me over 20 on my platform. I rarely ever have a need to get higher but if I did I’d still have a 4th stick available without the loops on it.

I don’t mind the bulk of the sticks. These last few years I’ve been carrying sticks and a stand in or a climber when I know he tree works and sure sometimes it’s a pain getting through some stuff but it still works and honestly it makes me go slow so I’m quiet and don’t sweat. I’m gonna lose the stand with my new setup so even keeping the sticks it’ll be easier. The main advantage of going to WE stepps would be saving a couple pounds

Welcome. I'm a newbie myself and for whatever reason, just did my first hunt from a saddle (sit-drag/rch) yesterday. Climbing with my cheap, heavy sticks was rough. I need more practice. If I'd been quicker I'm confident I would've killed a deer (saw over a dozen, they watched me climbing the tree).

Take Adrena123 up on his offer. I met up with him and tried his Trophyline. Just getting the feel for it all was a big help.

I agree, if you can meet up with someone to try it can clear up a lot of questions.

Welcome from Massachusetts. Hold on to the LW Sticks they are awesome. I love all the climbing systems that I've tried. Bolts, sticks and WE Stepps.

Welcome to the site. Your list looks solid.....and expensive....lol..but asking for suggestions on your kit is only gonna get you other people's preferences. The saddle hunting game is a very individual and preference oriented sport. Your gonna do what most of us have done and that's buy everything that catches your eye and eventually find out what works for you and your hunting routine and probably sell the rest. But that's most of the fun. I doubt you'll be disappointed with the mantis. Good luck

What’s everyone find with sizing for the mantis? Go with recommended size from chart or size up?
