One shot, everyone knows the rules!

Just started this for this season. Have been shooting off and on all year but testing my total “static sight settings” with a dual up pin with the top at 25 and the bottom proving out to be at 40 yards. Shooting a 65.5lb EVO XF 30 at 27” DL, 476gr. TAW with 200gr. up front (100gr. brass inserts, 100gr. BH). IMG_4233.jpeg

I had my kid go and place the target random in the yard so I didn't know where it would be
If you have some blunts you can toss out a nerf football or something and use your blunts to bounce it around. There are similar targets for .22LR plinking; with a 10/22 you can see how long you can keep it in motion.

U can always count on me to have some blunts ;)

No idea what I did but my left shoulder is all messed up (I’m right handed). Just hurts like heck when I shoot or lift it too high. Was able to take a bunch of ibuprofen and do the proficiency test to shoot 20 shots, I’m just doing 1-2 a day for now other than that. Couple from 40 last week, I won’t go past 30 for a deer. Not bad for me but I know not good. Peeked on the first one low left.IMG_5049.jpeg

I’m really enjoying the new Delta Mackenzie Bloodline XL target. I hope it holds up well. It seems to be a little more anatomically accurate than my old Glendale target. For example the Glendale looks like a square box with a head and rear of a deer attached to it; whereas, the bloodline has not seam on the body section, which creates a more realistic looking deer to me. I can see the shoulder imprint on the target similar to a live animal and that’s a great point of reference when practicing too

The bloodline xl seems like a better target than the Glendale overall so far. One minor issue is the antlers. I will need to glue the antlers in as they work their way out after a days worth of shooting. The legs on this target feature a plastic insert with a twist lock connection. I’m hoping the added support will help it hold up better.

I’m hoping to start taking elevated shots this week as season starts Oct 1st. I have not been practicing from height like I had wanted to over the summer. After some slight additional headaches ache and two weeks off i returned and bareshaft tuned my arrows. I finally have my arrows flying like darts. Turns out I needed to drop a spine.

Fletchings cover up a multitude of flight issues. I’m just glad I have a better eye for arrow flight now. Every time I think I know something about traditional archery I get humbled again. Don’t overlook the basics, perfect arrow tune is everything.

Yeah I have 2 of the DM bloodlines they’re good but I can see they won’t outlast my rhinehart 3d’s but then again nothing will.

Which rhinehart target do you have? They have a $300 deer target but the competition targets that looks amazing are like $600-800 and I can’t justify that lol

I have the coyote, 2 woodland boars, a strutting Tom, 2 xl blocks, and a black bear. And yeah they expionsive but I go with the woodland series when I can but they’re worth it, my xl blocks have been outside here in LA for almost 6 years now and they’re doing better than my delta Mackenzie buck and it hasn’t even been out for a year yet.

pretty consistent with one shot from height, the ground or going just a platform or ring of steps high and emptying my quiver after hanging my bow and repositioning for a different angle.

switching to a practice broadhead has brought less consistent results from my 10 ft deck.
Im planning to reserve a practice broadhead for a cold shot from height to build my confidence with the opener this weekend.
Usually that’s my squirrel arrow.
( recurve )

what fletching you using?

First shot of the day and pretty happy with it. Bow was the 44# Mathews Heli M shooting a 580 grain, 22% FOC arrow tipped with a Zwicky Judo point so I can shoot at random things around the yard. Today's shot turned out to be 33 paces (although I did not know it at the time) off the ground out if a Torges style tree seat. Today's target was a tennis ball I have on a rope about the height off the ground as a deer's vitals. I painted the tennis ball dark brown. I just looked at the ball, held a little over and it drilled it. I love this sort of practice.

Flight and placement looked great to me. Looks like you're ready for killin time.
These arrows are actually a lot lighter than I want ~450 grains so I have some more coming in hopefully this week. I’ll bareshaft cut and tune them before fletching. They should be back at 620-650 grains and I won’t have to change broadheads.

Opening day is Saturday for us. I haven’t shot from a saddle and platform all year like I wanted to and I think it’s gonna hurt me. Last night was my first cold shot from about 12 ft up I missed under at 25 yards. This picture is from my second shot where I connected. I shot a few more at 10-18 yards with no problems I just haven’t built back up to 25 yet. I plan to keep my shots under 20. From a tree 20 looks awfully similar to 25 to me. Im hoping to shoot the remainder of the week from a tree to get back the feeling and to build confidence. I probably won’t get to hunt until November so I have some time to get back in the saddle shooting feel. F68293D0-BC3D-43B1-A087-2F4A5DAFDEB6.jpeg41A11D67-5BAA-45F8-995F-3C5702D4BA16.jpeg
