Checking out the camprite today. I need a sleeping pad lol. I got the double and there's a bar that runs right down the middle.

That looks interesting. It keeps you off the ground a few inches?

It's a tent cot all in one. Off the ground like 12" or so.

The tent cots are actually decent for fast setup car camping. They are way too heavy and bulky for anything else. The fly will come off and you can see through the mesh like any other tent. Changing clothes in one could be interesting. I have slept in one before. It didn't sleep too bad.

You are not going to want to carry this thing far for sure.

I'm assuming the camp grounds has bathrooms and showers?

Yes. They have bathrooms and showers, as well as a few other public facilities that have power.

Just as an FYI - a lot of the hunting land has been closed recently. For instance only 10,000-15,000 acres were open for pig hunting (with rifles) this past weekend.

I talked with the Game & Fish guys and they told me a LOT more land should open up for the long President's day weekend since military units generally have this Friday-Monday off work. The land openings should be posted online today.

If we were bow hunting, the land would be virtually limitless. So, if it looks like we won't have a lot of ground to cover, however unlikely that may be, you could always bring your bow. I'll coordinate a time for us all to take the bow test (3 shots out of 5 at 20 and 30 yards) if it looks like that will be a better option.

Again - nothing to get nervous about - I'm just keeping everyone informed.

By the way, where is everyone traveling from? Do I need to pick up anyone at the airport?

The MWR is having a managed hog hunt Saturday so I'm sure they will have more open. I'm bringing a 22 mag and my bow just to make sure I have my side covered. Basically the lady at the pass and permit office told me as long as they were not busy they would do the qualifications but to call ahead just in case something changes.

Yes - that is what I've been told. They will also make appointments for the bow qualification.

As to the managed hunt - those are conducted in areas that are permanently closed to civilian traffic. The managed hunt won't effect us at all.

Should open everything that was open to small game hunting. I don't know how many people hunted last weekend but 15000 acres is still a lot of land.

Yeah 22 mag allows you to hunt the whole area. I'd only shoot smallish pigs (less than 120 lbs) with head shots with that weapon.

So how many weapons is everyone bringing? I have as bringing my 308, my 22-250 to back up the 308 in case something happens to the rifle or scope, my .357 pistol, now maybe a 22 mag? Is that about right?
