Platform opptions

Got my Skyhooks today!! Man these things are light!!!!! I'm going to try them out tomorrow and see how they are with the original strap.
Check out my video:

Yea they are nice. I have 3 of them. Too bad they don't make them anymore!

I don't use them for a platform because I only have 3. I use the ameristeps because I think they have a better design. If you want to keep them from rocking it will probably help to get them tighter. I couldn't tell in the video, it looked like you were using the strap they came on. If you were, try using a ratchet strap to get them really tight. If you like that then try out the over center buckle because it is quieter.

I sure could use some extra Skyhooks. [SMILING FACE WITH SMILING EYES]
How much do you want for them?

Haha, had to ask. Yeah I use two straps that they came with. It's pretty solid right now. I might look into that over center buckle later on.

Made this platform from a old hangon. I still use my steps/ratchet set up with it, but it sure is nice to be able to stand up

I agree. I'm going to use my assassin platform in conjunction with my skyhooks on big trees.

As soon as I start carrying 'extras' I don't like this method of hunting as much.

That add-on to the top of a climbing stick is a good idea though.
If I had a Pack Frame that was also my platform, that could be cool.

Thats a good idea, pretty cool. Definitely adds some bulk though.

The added bulk really isnt bad, the platform lays flat across my sticks when i pack them on my bag

I gotcha. Cool mod!

When was the last time you've seen so many strap on API Skyhooks in the same place?

Redsquirrel - what ever came of the over the center buckle and the hose clamp idea?

The over center buckle works great, I have used it on every mobile hunt this year. The biggest limitation is the size of the tree. If you have a smaller tree, say maybe 8-9 inch diameter, it is a little tougher to get it on really tight. It is possible but you have to work and fidget with the strap a little more. This is due to the size of the buckle compared to the tree I believe. If you use it on a tree with a diameter of a foot or more, I just pull the tag end of the strap, adjust my steps and latch the buckle. I step on the steps to settle them down and I'm good to go!

I never pursued the hose clamp idea because the over center buckle was working so great.

It sounds like the OTC buckle is in between the cam and ratchet straps. Tighter than the cam straps (which don't get tight enough), but not quite as snug as the ratchets (which are too loud)? Does that sound fair?
