Platform opptions

Anyone have an old loggy bayou tree stand they had a strap that pulled tight then i believe on over center buckle and a pin that locked it in. Maybe the manufacturer could sell separate? also bear claws( like old aluminum Ameristeps i think, steps that hook on lag bolt) if them or someone would weld a loop to have a strap those would be the bomb!!! Calling all  Aluminum welders!!

X stand has a tree seat that looks okay like old Lone wolf one but made of steel  I watched the video on the over center buckle might give that a try next season

Can you post a link to the seat? Thanks!

Has anyone considered using an aluminum version of the Ameristep strap on steps as a platform? You know, put about 5-6 steps on a strap like most guys do. Would it not make your pack a little lighter? I would like the assurance that you would have to worry about the steps snapping like the plastic ameristeps.

There is nothing aluminum that fits the bill. Check the DIY section. We have people working on an aluminum step ;) But I agree, it would be nice if a manufacturer could come up with something. It's just such a niche thing that I wouldn't hold my breath. The ameristeps aren't very likely to snap. There was a particular series in manufacturing dates that were a bust. I believe it was 2008. If you get ones that are prior or later you are in good shape.

It would be great if we could get BearClaw to put some slits in their steps. Would something of that nature work great for saddle users?

Ratchet straps are a drag (I have Cranford Rope steps on a strap).
Interested in the "Rope Ratchet" though.

I have a pair of Top Paws on order as I think they will be the most comfortable option on your feet.

Can fill in the gaps using Screw-in steps or I'll convert my Cranford Rope steps back to rope.
I have also filled in the gaps using Tree Bolts.
Fine for temporary movement but you wouldn't want to stand on them all day.

We need an invention!!!

You are right. If bearclaw would make some just like these old API steps it would be perfect. Maybe we could customize the bearclaws?

I just put a comment in on the bearclaw site so we will see what comes of it. It does say there have been requests for strap on steps so they may be in development.

Guess who just got their hands on four brand new (in the ORIGNAL package) API Strap-On Skyhooks, for less than $20? :D

This was posted over on AT about the Cranford Rope steps used on a ratchet strap, The bend a heck of a lot.

Thanks,

Yikes.

I cancelled my Top Paws order, found 4 Ameristep Strap steps and ordered the "Boxer Tools" Cam over buckle.
The Buckle arrived today and I should have the steps monday.
That looks to be a good setup.
If I love it I will probably try to scare one or two more steps to go on the strap.

THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP

Here is a possible option that I am going to be testing out this year. The guys at ODIN were kind enough to send me a set to test, although you would have to be allowed to use screw in tree steps where you hunt to use these. I think they should work well. Going to start testing them this coming week doing some pre-season scouting.

Great video Boswell! They look pretty cool. If the price of the brackets is right I could see switching to that for all my pre set platforms and they having a set of the steps and just dropping them in when I get in the tree.

Keep us updated!

RE: THE CRANFORD STEPS ON RATCHET

I wonder if they had it mounted correctly.
I put mine on the ratchet strap where the stress was on the main body of the Step and not those rings.

My problem with these AND a Ratchet, was you are swinging heavy steps around the tree, they can't be adjusted after the strap is tightened....the Steps and Ratchet tend to clank around, THEN the noise of tightening the Ratchet, then fuming with sliding the steps around, then more tightening...

Once I got it mounted, it was OK for me.
The steps will tend to rock sideways a bit and if your strap wasn't super tight it would tend to work it's way down the tree a little.

Will be interesting to get your take on the ODIN Steps.
They look like a complicated solution to a simple problem to me.

You still have to use a Drill.
There are 3 parts per step.
A set of 12 additional brackets is $50

They DO look comfortable.
Seems like a good solution for some one that has 1 or 2 Hang-On stands that they want to leave up all Season but not cost effective for a mobile Saddle hunter.

I am interested in their Climbing Sticks.

I fooled around with putting the cranford rope steps on a strap but I gave up on it. They are too heavy and they are really not the most secure steps. The design of the ameristeps is nice because it is like a sideways T, and it helps support below your weight. The cranford steps are a sideways L, and they seem to torque more.

I got an email back from bearclaw that said they are working on a sliding hanger that will accommodate their current steps so that guys can use their current steps. Hopefully this is something that will work for us!
