Only been a one year participant but man was it awesome to have an engaged team. Felt like I had a bunch of hunting buddies encouraging me when I struggled or screwed up and cheering for every little victory I found. As a newer archery hunter and first year saddle guy it was invaluable.
To me, this is what it’s all about. I’m glad you had an exceptional experience! Can’t wait to get rolling this season.

Planning to hunt with only traditional bows this year. Debating should I even enter due to low expectations. Also a Patriots fan. So right now Im already enough pessimism without adding to a big 0 score submission.....

So @boyne bowhunter when do you want me to Venmo that $20 so you'll put me on a strong team of stone cold killers?
I mean you can’t fix the Patriots problems but you should still enter!

I just keep the score, @redsquirrel has the magic team selector. :tearsofjoy:

I think everyone should enter. Don't let killing from the ground effect your decision. All for fun. Noting at stake other than bragging rights. I went back and forth a few times last year over sitting on the ground. But you gotta hunt it how it makes sense. I don't think anyone would have shammed me "to bad" if I posted a picture of a nice deer I took from something else other than the saddle.

That's actually why I don't enter. I found I was hunting with a saddle whether I should've been or not. Only saddle deer count for the contest. Not worth it.

Not true. I would have given you crap. Play to win or dont play at all. :tonguewink:

Yeah and then you have folks who enter the contest and only end up taking deer while seated on a bucket...
Or running around in deep snow with a smoke pole…

they told me I shoulda worn my saddle that day; I suppose the same approach could be applied to the bucket.

Do what works for you but I really don't think its that big of a deal. Enter the contest, hunt how the situation dictates. If you kill a buck while you're not in the saddle its no big deal, its not like there's anything at stake. For me the contest is more of a means to share the season's experiences with some other "friends I've never met". I can honestly say I was never upset with a team mate for killing a deer that they couldn't count in the contest. In fact, just the opposite was true, I was celebrating their success.

I agree with @boyne bowhunter. Enter the contest, I’ve had teammates kill a deer that didn’t count before and while there might have been some good natured ribbing, nobody was upset.

Even if you don’t enter the contest find yourself a team and make yourself an honorary member, join in their thread and celebrate their and your success with them. It’s all for fun.

Which got me thinking. Is a person only a saddle hunter when they are actually suspended by a saddle? What about now? I'm not in my saddle. Should I even be posting here, lol?
