Rappelling rope

after running your brake line between the rope and ats? I would have to bounce to free it from my mini 8 after tying off like that and my fear came from that little guy twisting and my friction loops falling off their arms. It never happened, but that was what scared me about bouncing. The sterling arms look like my mini 8's.

Why I like the looks of this beefier critr guy

That's why I still keep talking about autoblocks...super easy
yeah I always used one(prussic on leg loop) just never had to test it to be confident in it

picked up one of those hollowblocks you mentioned somewhere for this year and going to do the simpler 4 wrap thing instead of dressing a prussic

That's a good method. I just keep it clipped on my leg loop and can attach it quickly. One end stays attached to your harness while wrapping it...it would be a bummer to drop it :)

Tried the ATC sport and hollowblock today and it was pretty simple and smooth on my sterling htp 9mm. Hopefully it works with the 8mm canyon ive got coming.
Should I be tying a bite below autoblock and clipping into that as I'm tearing down gear?

With 9mm HTP and hollow block, I feel ZERO chance of slipping. I practice a lot at 6' to get confident with how it all works. Then I set up two sticks and just climb up, hang and descend.

When rappelling with a bridge as opposed to just a center harness connection, be aware that lifting your brake leg will release some tension on the ATC. In my experience, it just lets you down however much you moved your leg....doesn't throw you into freefall or anything but if you weren't aware and you were tearing own gear and leaned a little, it would get you attention.

Just get in the habit of doing a leg wrap when you stop

have you done atc on 8mm? whats your exp with it? Ill be using belay loop as my hookup. I also have the shorter hollowblock so 4 wraps is about my max on 9mm. Should I grab the longer one?

That's pretty skinny for single rope on an ATC, but I have not tried it myself.
Take a look at the Sterling ATS that I am selling on the classifieds here. It has a nice benefit where you don't unclip the device to connect the rope. It is used a lot by Canyoneering people with skinny rope which is why I got one. But I am good with thicker rope and my ATC or GriGri so I am cleaning house a bit.

P.S.

The reason I chose to stick to the ATC is that I also have some thicker tethers....Static 11mm and a Yale Bandit long tether and the ATC works better with those.

yeah with the sport I couldnt use the toothy side on 9mm. So maybe it will work on 8mm, plus ive read you can double up your carabiners on atc for added friction so Ive got some room to work with.

More curious about how many wraps an autoblock is going to require on 8mm. I should just order the longer one just in case I guess

I'd be surprised if 4 wraps didn't hold. The grab seems to depends more upon the type of rope than the diameter. It might just take slightly longer to catch

You know it's funny....these 15' rappels are 'nothing'.... climbers fall that far in one step. BUT we have to be extra careful with our switchover and tearing down gear. One careless move and you're on the ground before you know what happened

you got that right. What bothered me today when tearing down gear was inadvertently putting some kind of side pressure onto my autoblock with my leg or harness while reaching for a stand strap etc and imagining, putting enough side pressure onto it to release it. Of course it should catch again....

My buddy's a firefighter and we got to talking the other day. He said firefighters call a 12 foot drop the trauma line, Meaning a fall from that height or higher has a high rate of injury. He then went on to tell me what would most likely happen with a 25 foot fall which is where i typically hunt at and it made me nauseous.

Don't tell, that's where I work everyday plus hunt. I'm probably safer hunting

Though Ive seen a couple guys fall from 20+ feet. They both kind of bounced and walked away from it luckily

No kidding...I trimmed trees for years and still do occasionally. I spend a lot of time above 25 feet in a tree.

bad thing about doing it everyday is you lose respect....fear is probably better word... for it. 20 feet starts to look "jumpable" after awhile

When I trimmed everyday, my "pucker" height began at around 60 feet. I think about that now and just shake my head
