SaddlePalooza - Feb 16-19, 2018 - Official Thread

I've received a lot of questions via PM. Here are some answers for those wondering.

Q: My first question has to do with the price of the trip. It shows on the site the trip being a $100 to $150.
A: I think it's going to be closer to $125-$150. This includes camping fees, meals (dinner every night, plus lunch on Saturday), firewood, drinks, incidentals like paper plates, cups, napkins, etc. I'm not charging anything for running the hunt and setting everything up. The fee makes sure I don't come out of pocket. Last year I charged $100. I think and I ended up paying several hundred dollars to make the hunt happen. Not a big deal, but that was for only 10 hunters. It's going to be a LOT bigger this year and I don't want to pay an arm and a leg. I'm not making any money from this. That's not the point.

Q: My second question is how do I pay?
A: Cash at the event, or PayPal ahead of time. I prefer PayPal since I'll have to pay for the meals and camp sites ahead of time. I'll post that information in January.

Q: Third question is how long do I have to notify if I am going to bring any additional people and what cost is associated per person?
A: The fee will be pretty much the same. The campground charges per person, not per tent site. Meals are also being charged per person. The bulk of the "hunt fee" goes to meals and lodging. If that doesn't work for you, let's figure something out. I want everyone to be able to attend. As far as timing, I'll get a final head count in January. That will be when I lock in the campground and BBQ.

Q: Are there enough trees available if I have a tentsile tent?
A: YES! Pleas bring that! I've been wanting to check it out for a long time.

Q: Also I was curious as to how many raffle tickets I can buy? I see on the site for $20 it gives me 30 raffle tickets. Is that the max number?
A: There is no limit to the raffle tickets. The raffle money will go back into the Saddle Hunter community. I'll use it to reduce the cost for next years SaddlePalooza, or to do something cool for the community. Maybe a donation to "Wounded Warriors" or towards a hunting conservation effort we can all get behind. I suggest each person purchase a minimum of $1000 in raffle tickets :)

Q: I am also considering coming in a day early if that is okay.
A: We can work something out for sure.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask away!

Question #1 that is a great price with all it includes. Who wants to cook after walking through the swamp all day? it shouldn’t cost you a dime to put this hunt on. IMHO Add on question #1 the price of the hunting license and the daily fee for Ft Stewart

Question #2 I paid at the event I should have prepaid. I will this year. I personally don’t think it should be expected of you to front this money for the event. IMHO

Question #3 how late can a person be added one of my buddies has tentatively said yes. But cannot commit until later.

Last question I think I stayed the longest last year leaving on Monday. I think I will come Thursday through Sunday and leave Sunday night this year. Remember you have to pick up your gun registration paperwork before you hunt.

#1 - Good points. Let's assume I decide to go with the highest hunt cost of $150 for a worst case scenario example.

$150 - SaddlePalooza Fee
$20 - Georgia Hunting License
$45 - 3 days Fort Stewart Hunting ($15 per day)
$215 TOTAL

Tell you what...I don't like that $215 number, so I just decided the hunt cost will be $130 to keep everything under $200.

UPDATED NUMBERS
$130 - SaddlePalooza Fee (4 meals, all drinks & incidentals, firewood, lodging, event shirt)
$20 - Georgia Hunting License
$45 - 3 days Fort Stewart Hunting ($15 per day)
$195 TOTAL

The only other costs would be your food, and transportation costs for gas or plane tickets.

#2 - I don't mind fronting the deposits for the campground and BBQ, but I would prefer everyone pre-pay via PayPal friends and family. It makes it easier for me to track everything. I understand if you can't and cash at the event is totally acceptable. I'll post the PayPal info in January.

#3 - Probably pretty late. I don't want anyone to miss out. I have to lock in the Campground and BBQ grill in January with a pretty solid number. Fluctuating by a few won't be a big deal, but I'll need a 90% accurate head count in late January. I'll post the exact date.

#4 - This all depends on how much you want to hunt. Keep in mind the following Monday (Feb 19th) is a federal holiday and most people can take that day off. That makes for an excellent travel home day. If it looks like most folks want to come in on Thursday, that's fine.

KEEP IN MIND - if you don't have your weapons registered (archery doesn't have to be registered) on Fort Stewart, you have to show up IN-PERSON to pick up your forms. This is non-negotiable and they're only open during normal business hours Mon-Fri. This is why I'm going to submit all of our paperwork ahead of time to ensure each hunter can simply walk in, present their photo ID, and leave with the weapons form. I also recently learned that I can arrange for visitor passes ahead of time to access the installation without a DOD ID card holder. That means everyone can pre-register and access the security offices without relying on me.

If any of this is confusing or intimidating, please talk to me. It's really not a big deal and I'm happy to help anyone that needs more clarification.

G2, I'm bringing a camper and will probably park it in the RV section with hookups, but will have to leave my weapons in the area you guys are using, apparently, it's not that far, but I will most likely be making my own reservation for the campground due to the RV.

I was going bring my truck camper , though Ill probably sleep in my hammock. I don't need hook ups hoping I can stay in tent area with the group

Group Campsite RESERVED. It's official.

@cutty - That won't be a problem. There is a 6 vehicle limit in the group campsite. All others must park in a small field about 100 yards from the tent area. I'm sure you're truck camper won't be a problem.
