SaddlePalooza - Feb 16-19, 2018 - Official Thread

@MJH I know non-US citizens can come on the installation. Let me find out this week if the process is any different. I don't think it will be an issue. You'll just need to show your passport I think.

IT WOULD BE SO COOL for this to turn into an international event!!!!

Here is an equipment list for those considering attending.

1. Hunting equipment - Most guys will still hunt, or spot and stalk. However, sitting in a saddle is a very good option as well. Besides your rifle/bow/shotgun make sure you have rubber boots. There is no such thing as dry land in Southern Georgia. You may be able to find some areas that have very little water and you can get away with standard hunting/hiking boots, but my recommendation is rubber boots. Make sure you have hunter orange as it is required. Temps will be anywhere from 20° - 70°. We'll have a pretty good idea about 3 or 4 days out. Some guys are bringing boats/kayaks/canoes. This is a really good way to hunt. It's definitely not a necessity, but fun nonetheless.

2. Camping Equipment - If you are driving, bring your tent/hammock/tarp setup. Also, if anyone has pop up shelters/canopies, please bring it. We can use it around camp. ALSO - if you have a very large tent, or multiple tents, please send me a PM. We have several folks flying in and it will be difficult for them to fly with a tent. If we can help out our fellow Saddle Hunters, that would be awesome. We will have a bonfire every night so bring your camping chair. I can't think of any specialized camping equipment you'll need besides your tent/tarp/hammock, sleeping bag, insulating pad, maybe a small heater, cooler for food...just your standard car camping setup.

3. For those flying in - I'm going to try to get everyone setup with a tent so you guys don't have to fly with one. HOWEVER, if you'd like to ship anything ahead of time to avoid flying with it, that's totally fine. I believe firearms have to be shipped via an FFL, so I don't think I want to mess with that. You'll have to carry your guns. But you can ship me anything else. I've done this before hunting elk in Montana and it worked great. We shipped our stuff to the outfitter 2 weeks ahead of time and it helped a lot. Send me a PM if you are interested in this. Disclaimer: If you ship me any really awesome saddle gear, expect some of it to be pilfered :)

4. Alcohol - I've had several questions about this. Alcohol is allowed. We are all grown ups and I expect everyone to act and consume alcohol like a grownup. If you are abusing it, I will say something, and confiscate your saddle gear :)

Please send any questions my way.

@Huntingbob did a post for me as well. He does outstanding work.

Here is a painted version of his post:

Thank you to those that have filled out the event registration form. If you haven't please do so.

For those of you that have filled it out, make sure you click the link on the right of the spreadsheet to complete your Payment, Access Request, and Weapons Registration. The deadline for payment will be Monday, January 15th. If something happens after that date and you can't attend (or a guest backs out) I'll give you a full refund.

FINALLY - If you are able to bring any extra camping equipment (camp chairs, tents, or pop-up shelters, or tables) please send me a PM. We have some Saddle Hunters that are flying in. I'd like to reduce the amount of stuff they have to bring if at all possible.

I'm bringing a large tent that can sleep 4 people comfortably. I only need 2 spaces for me and Jackson, so if any flyers are ok sharing a tent, that's an option.

@MJH - I haven't heard back from the Post Access Control about foreign nationals. I'll shoot you a PM just as soon as I do.

Kids are a different price since they won't be charged a full campground fee. Thanks for bringing this up @flinginairos

If you are bringing a minor (under 18), the hunt fee is only $65. They will not need to pay the $15 per night lodging fees.

Also, make sure to include shirt sizes for everyone. Event shirts are included in the hunt fee.

If you are bringing a minor (under 18), deduct $40 from the cost of the event. They will not be charged camping fees. Prices for minors are $90.

Awesome thanks! I filled out the form. Will get the rest of the stuff filled out shortly! Myself, my son and my buddy are gonna be there!

@g2outdoors you can take me off the list for now.

We got invited to destination wedding that my wife insists we attend. Looking like that's going to gouge any extra budget I may have for 2018.

Sorry man. If i can find a way to make it work i'll let you know.

I’ll fill it out on Friday. Out of state for work, and it won’t let me fill it out on mobile platform.

My iPhone wouldn’t open it in either google docs or sheets.

If anyone needs a hunter education course, here you go. The whole thing is online and only costs $28. I signed my 11 year old son up for the course as well. FYI - everyone hunting on Fort Stewart, regardless of age, is required to have the hunter safety card on their person while hunting.
