So the general consensus is merino wool or silver for base layers and Scentlok for outer? Got my scentlok gloves and head cover in today. Building it a few pieces at a time.
There is a large zippered pocket on the inside for storing the coveralls in.

That's what I do and it works. If one layer of scentlok works in the early season when it's hot and there's more smell, it makes sense that 1 layer late in the season should work.
In the late season I am more likely to need a warm meal like Ham and Bean soup or Chili. So I usually have to add a layer of scent lok to offset the beans.
I always laugh. Every time I'm on a group hunting trip, the first meal is always chili or the first lunch is hot dogs and sauerkraut with baked beans. They should make a double carbon layer around the exit for that....

We have discussed evidence for activated carbon at the molecular level. Have there been any studies in the field that prove or suggest that activated carbon is effective in the field??

Is scent blocker still around?

absolutely. This is my experience as well.Listen - the ScentLok is doing something. Whether or not it's enough to help you fool deer...that's up for debate and is a highly personal thing.
HOWEVER - Let me tell you this - I can sweat through my ScentLok suit and undergarments (shorts and a t-shirt for driving), throw them in a container, and they won't smell after several days. Now I'm not talking about a little perspiration. I'm talking straight up ran-a-marathon sweaty. And I'm also not talking about a take-a-quick-wiff kind of smell. I'm talking bury your face in the arm pits and crotch of the unwashed suit that's been sitting in a container for several days. If I did that with cotton/polyester/any other hunting garment, I'd probably throw up. There is no smell on the ScentLok. It's kind of a Christmas miracle in the Georgia September bow season.
I have myself experienced this several times. AGAIN - I'm not making a claim on whether or not ScentLok can fool a deer's nose. I have my opinion on that, but this is something entirely different.
The activated carbon in their clothes ABSOLUTELY WORKS in adsorbing smell. No questions asked.
There was a good discussion in an earlier thread on why you still smell farts. Our resident expert @BassBoysLLP, explained how those molecules are not well adsorbed by activated carbon but that those specific molecules are very common in nature.
So basically we're worried about masking sweat and BO and not necessarily butt stink. Right?

Yes. I use it because it's cheaper to buy (eBay late season) and I like their Alpha Fleece line as my outer layer.
Layers:
Up top: mid-weight merino wool for base layers and a heavy wool sweater for a warming layer on top (I use a surplus Marine Corps green uniform sweater because it's heavier wool than any commercial warming layer I've found and I bought it for about $30).
Bottoms: I have medium and heavy weight merino leggings. I've used the heavy weight on two sits in the 30s with no problem.
That's not to say I don't use scentlok. I had an early season suit that I used and loved for a season but I sold it to refresh my gear (if you buy gear on clearance from Cabelas, eBay or similar you can sell it at only a 10-20% loss on Archery Talk which is an economical way to upgrade your gear).
I love the legacy locker on Scentlok and have bought my face masks and gloves from it.
ScentLok used to have an open predator pattern but I think it ended up discontinued in the legacy locker, but I'm not sure.
I personally dislike mossy oak and real tree but don't have another option in a good activated carbon garment. I just climb up to 25'.
The only option you have is to get the ASAT 3D suit and throw it over your Camo if you want to get the best of both worlds. I bought one and really like it for turkey but haven't used it for deer yet.
I also really like the predator ambush series, but it uses silver and I'm not ready to give up carbon.
