Looked so interesting I decided to order a few to play with and can't beat the price. Thanks for heads up Peter
I believe they are used as supportive brackets for furniture (corners). They even have little triangle thingies on the backsides to kind of dig in to whatever you are bracing. At five bucks a piece, it is a pretty inexpensive alternative. I was thinking of buying a bunch and using them as presets, as well as one set for run and gun.
They weigh about 5 ounces each; quite light. I will probably go with another bracket. This is all I had lying around the house.
I have lightly filed the edges but because the whole thing looks cast, I really could not feel any sharp edges. I will round them off though. The aluminum is very easy to work with.
So, what can I wrap these things in that will silence them when I am setting them up?
How do they respond to side pressure? If using for presets, you could use a washer and bolt/lag through one of the holes to really lock it down along w ratchet. If drilling is ok of course.

how large a strap is that on the ratchet
I would still leave it on the strap in addition to the lags, double protectionAwesome idea! For presets where screws are legal two or three of those permanently attached with lag bolts would be killer solid. As it is for a strap on system I cannot imagine anything we currently have being better. This is far and away a better system then the current offerings in strap on steps. I am going to order 2 just to dink around with for my large trees. to quiet them just add a spacer of foam on the strap or stealth strip them. Great idea - this is what I love about this site is all the out of the box ideas that come up.
I bought 6, at $31 if I can preset 2 trees that is pretty cheap.I bought 2 last night just to try out. Already shipped!
You just need the "boat buckle" which is an overcenter buckle, and a strap with a hook on the end. Once you have that you can use it to replace a ratchet strap. Two steps, with the RS aider and the platform got me to ten feet. I have to figure out this boat buckle thing you guys have been talking about, but it was pretty easy to set this up while standing on the step using a lineman's belt. I get the concept of it boat buckle, and like it. Just need to understand what I will have to purchase. Tempted to use the existing ratchet system and Easy Stitch one of those hooks so I can hook to the buckle. Anyone do this?

The one on the right is not modified. The one on the far left was cut so the slot and the hole became one. This was not the way to go because it made the step a bit "top heavy". The rest of the brackets were done correctly. Increase the slot toward the top of the step. This created a lot more stability. You have to make the slot larger in order for the webbing to fit through. I did it with a hacksaw blade and a drill bit. The metal is very soft, so it is easy to work with. They will need to be silenced though. They sound like cow bells when clanked together.

Looks good. I ordered 5 to try. They look stable. That I could use for a platform. I finally found these, 3" by 3" with slots for a strap. I also should have the ability to mount a mini platform, about 3" by 6", should I want to increase surface area (think I will). I ordered five and will report back. I plan to put all five on one ratchet strap. Thoughts? Pete
