So I have been looking for brackets

How do they respond to side pressure? If using for presets, you could use a washer and bolt/lag through one of the holes to really lock it down along w ratchet. If drilling is ok of course.

I believe they are used as supportive brackets for furniture (corners). They even have little triangle thingies on the backsides to kind of dig in to whatever you are bracing. At five bucks a piece, it is a pretty inexpensive alternative. I was thinking of buying a bunch and using them as presets, as well as one set for run and gun.

They weigh about 5 ounces each; quite light. I will probably go with another bracket. This is all I had lying around the house.

I have lightly filed the edges but because the whole thing looks cast, I really could not feel any sharp edges. I will round them off though. The aluminum is very easy to work with.

So, what can I wrap these things in that will silence them when I am setting them up?

Some guys on here have used some kind of tape for silencing. Stealth strips can get expensive.

They did not budge. It is 3 inches wide, and the strap goes through two vertical slots. I think both of those contribute to its stability.

Awesome idea! For presets where screws are legal two or three of those permanently attached with lag bolts would be killer solid. As it is for a strap on system I cannot imagine anything we currently have being better. This is far and away a better system then the current offerings in strap on steps. I am going to order 2 just to dink around with for my large trees. to quiet them just add a spacer of foam on the strap or stealth strip them. Great idea - this is what I love about this site is all the out of the box ideas that come up.

I would still leave it on the strap in addition to the lags, double protection

I was actually gonna wait on buying a few, but knowing my luck the price will be double if I wait! Once they sell 100 in 2 days after only selling 100 in 6 months lol

I bought 2 last night just to try out. Already shipped!

I wonder what the difference would be if you cut slots in the sides rather than the area that sits against the tree.

Two steps, with the RS aider and the platform got me to ten feet. I have to figure out this boat buckle thing you guys have been talking about, but it was pretty easy to set this up while standing on the step using a lineman's belt. I get the concept of it boat buckle, and like it. Just need to understand what I will have to purchase. Tempted to use the existing ratchet system and Easy Stitch one of those hooks so I can hook to the buckle. Anyone do this?

I ordered ten of them for a few big trees that I will preset. They really do look like they will be as solid, if not more so, then the current offerings.

You just need the "boat buckle" which is an overcenter buckle, and a strap with a hook on the end. Once you have that you can use it to replace a ratchet strap.

This pic reminds me that I need to get my stepps and platform out of a tree!

The one on the right is not modified. The one on the far left was cut so the slot and the hole became one. This was not the way to go because it made the step a bit "top heavy". The rest of the brackets were done correctly. Increase the slot toward the top of the step. This created a lot more stability. You have to make the slot larger in order for the webbing to fit through. I did it with a hacksaw blade and a drill bit. The metal is very soft, so it is easy to work with. They will need to be silenced though. They sound like cow bells when clanked together.

Where legal, I can see cutting a larger bolt head hole at base of the two slots and then using these with two lag bolts left in tree to make like an old API shyhook step removable platform. I doubt most would notice 6 - 8 lag bolts at 20 foot high, would be easy to sue and wouldn't reveal your location like leaving steps and strap on tree. I am definitely pursuing these for where they are legal.

That I could use for a platform. I finally found these, 3" by 3" with slots for a strap. I also should have the ability to mount a mini platform, about 3" by 6", should I want to increase surface area (think I will). I ordered five and will report back. I plan to put all five on one ratchet strap. Thoughts? Pete

Looks good. I ordered 5 to try. They look stable.
