Here is a "final" version of what I am thinking about. I made up two and have the original prototype as well for climbing and testing. So far it works quite well. Very easy to set on the tree. Each weighs 7 ounces. Packs down to nothing. I get about 3.5 feet with each one.
You do not have a solid platform like the WE step to stand on but it is plenty stable. I just sewed a second metal loop on the Swaider at knee height so I can stand on both feet when tying on. Not sure I need it but just thinking of some of the heavier guys; it may add additional comfort.
I climbed three high with no issue in the dark. I have to work out how make the knaider/swaider work easily, but it is pretty close just as is. Soon as I can do this in daylight and have someone hold my phone, I will have a vid for you guys.
Need to play around with these on various trees as well. I have strapped the original around a bunch , including one as thin as 4 inches in diameter and have had no issue. Of course things change a bit once you are fifteen feet or so in the air.
