The ultimate ultralight saddle?

well, I see that one(in the link) was up for trade. I've searched the best I can and can't come up with a source. Is this thing home made?

So, really you could make this with some climbing grade webbing right? Then if the hammock material happened to give out you're still ok.

I think it would create hot spots. These are much stronger than you would think. The ones I have seen break, broke in the middle and not at the connections

Right on! I made one in the DIY section a while back. Just a quick ruff cut one. Not having webbing is what makes it sooooo comfortable. Hammock material stretches and evens out the pressure points. I had to move shortly after making it and all my stuff is packed away while we live in a rent house. I can't wait to get back on that project. It's a winner!

Maybe a stupid question but can you explain the sewing channels into this? I apparently am lost when it comes to this and is there any like videos or plans for making a hammock type seat like this?

It is just folding the material over and sewing it and leaving gap for the suspension.
Some just run the suspension through and girth hitch it (like mine). Others do an 'end knot' where the suspension goes through and then back around a big wad of the material. This is definitely stronger and is probably better for our use.
Some complain that the knot method makes the spread of the hammock less repeatable and adjustable but for a hunting sling that isn't likely to matter.

Here is an excellent link:

Watch the whole video. The zip tie whipped end method is so simple

Cool thank you now it makes sense lol

60"x24" Fleece doubled over to make it about 30x24"
Triple Stitch channels at each end (one end's channel is the folded material but I stitched next to that as well.
Feed Amsteel loops through (I tied mine with water knots) and girth hitch to themselves cinching down the fabric.
I hung it up on carabiners with a 24" sling bridge. Works great. Silent, warm (bad in hot months)stretches a lot at first. Not quite as adjustable as the nylon hammock material but you can spread out the load very well and you can full on sit in it.

This is GREAT for 'leaners'. It would also make an excellent back band for the Evo. I will be doing that for sure.

This packs a little smaller than the sit drag with compression. It is quieter and more comfortable. But it is spread out to make it more comfortable so larger on your body.
The Bridge gives you full mobility.

I would want to adjust my rock harness backup to keep tension on it to compensate for stretching.

Messed with it more today. I like it without a bridge and clipped straight to the carabiner.

This is really interesting. I'm still not seeing how this is the safest option unless you wear a RC harness under it which wouldn't be a big deal. I may have to try this.

I definitely would wear a rock harness with it. You could wear a treehopper linesmans belt instead but you often need to hang in a harness when rigging.

The Alpine BOD is very light. I'm thinking about removing some of the gear loops from it to make it smoother against these hammock slings

I understand. I've just trying to think of a way to eliminate the need for a rock climbing harness also.

This looks like a great idea!

You don't even need to sew to make the hammock seat. I have used "this" on bedsheets and tarps many times in the past:

I imagine a beaver saddle sling... ;)

I made a smaller one...about 31X20" after hemming and channels.
Each Loop was made from 24" of Amsteel tied in a double fisherman's knot.

The key to comfort in these is getting you leg angle right so the front edge doesn't dig into your legs. You have to run a low tether...like chin level. Sitting with your legs up like motorcycle is extremely comfortable. I also like bracing one foot up on the tree to shift my balance around for a change.

I think making it a little wider would make it more versatile. And I was using a 24" web sling bridge.

This packs own INSIDE my small locking carabiner (not including bridge though)
