Your climbing method.

My mobile setup. I use a bottom part of a tree lounger. Only 3 pounds. Then I use my sit drag/ rock climbing harness combo for the upperScreenshot_20180708-084917_Gallery.jpg

Depends....lf I buy the mystery ranch pop up 28 I'll go with my lw sticks w/redsaider. Until then, WE steps w/reds aider.

Modified hawk helium. I climbed with bolts last year on private land and will still use these some. Tried both WE steps and sticks with aiders at saddlepalooza. Much to my surprise I prefer the sticks.
Hey @denots, can you elaborate on why you prefer sticks to bolts?
I am really liking bolts. Help me!

Well to be honest with you I like both climbing methods. I will actually use both this year, but I will use sticks more often then bolts for sure. One of the main reasons is because I'm not going to be able to drill trees on public land that I'm going to hunt. On my private lease here by the house I will still use bolts on trees that I think I may hunt more than once. But if it's a tree that I've never hunted and I'm not sure if I will hunt it again I will definitely use my sticks. The reason for this is because the sticks take less effort to get to hunting height. The hand drill is not bad and I don't mind drilling 16-20 holes, but I don't necessarily want to spend the effort and time to drill a tree that I'm only going to hunt one time. Although it may take me a little less time this year because last year I was also using bolts for my platform. I think I was actually drilling about 16 bolts high and an additional 6 bolts for my platform. It takes me about a half hour to hand drill a tree and put my bolts in and climb. I can climb that same tree in probably five minutes with sticks. To be honest with you I think everybody should consider having an easy cut drill and bolts in their system, if they have any land that they can use them on. They're so Compact and easy to bring with you but there's no way I would not use them on a tree that I know I will hunt multiple times in a year. That is unless I really fall in love with climbing with Spurs and then I may only keep a few bolts and drill with me as an emergency method in case I drop a spur.

If I can use spurs in the area and I can do it as easily as @flinginairos makes it look, that will be my go to.
Other than that it will be wild edge Cain Method for long walks or sticks with foot cinch moveable aider for close walks.

In order of preference...

1. Bolts for presets where legal

2. Spurs for run and gun where legal

3. Sticks for run and gun where spurs are not legal.

I’d also like to try those eonpow climbers at some point. They look slick as heck.

Thanks @denots
I ordered a set of three Hawk Heliums today.
My current plan is to cut them down via DaveT method and use his one step elder.

I still like my bolts too.

WE steps for me this year. Got them in a couple of weeks ago and have been practicing as much as I can. Trying to decide if I go with the Cain method, knaider, or knaider and swaider.

Hawk Helium sticks(w/ rope mods) for going mobile. Also will be using preset 20’ sticks that I’ll need to reach 10’ up so I’ll carry one or two muddy pros with rope mods

what rope mods did you make ? any pictures ?
Thanks

My primary method this year will be Wild Edge stepps and the Predator platform. Using 8 steps and the platform is getting 28ft to my feet and weighs in at 10lbs 2 Ozs. I am using the Cain climbing method without any aiders.

My secondary method is going to be a hand climbing platform of some kind. Possibly a modified predator platform or the lone wolf platform with a 3 stepp aider.

and now I have a single muddy pro stick that should be on it's way to me... Thanks @Cain for the single stick video.

Nothing like the ingenuity of this place to make a man second guess his setup. Lot's of playing around in the yard left before season starts. Just wish it wasn't 106 degrees today...

I am currently using 4 Hawk Heliums w/ the versa button rope modifications and stealth strips. I have been throwing around the idea of cutting them down like some guys do, but i dont like using aiders in the tree so I dont want to lose the height.
Mine are very quiet and light and I enjoy using them when I need them.

This year for me it will be primarily one sticking or spurs. If I know I will be encountering a lot of limbs it will be the method I use with WE steps.
