Ok so I kept looking for those guys out there who weren't comfortable with the cf bolts.....medical grade Ti alloy bolts with the same shear range (approx) as grade 8, 18 of them showed up at my door today for $80. Guy felt bad some of the cuts weren't 100% square on the 14 i ordeed so sent 4 more. They're all great in my opinion.....1.409lbs, my scale was going batty...View attachment 7466
@Nutterbuster @redsquirrel @kyler1945 @Ontariofarmer @flinginairos @PJC @ckossuth @kodiak3842 sorry if I missed others whom were watching this before..

Where did you order the titanium rods from?

How did I miss this post? It was in November, so maybe that explains why.
Where did you find this deal?

Used them a couple times during the seasin. Preffered the cf for the feel in the hand, and they're quieter. Probably bed liner dip them or plasta dip this winter. I'm comfortable with the cf ones...so hard to beat them. :)

The link says listing has ended.

I’m still looking at the 1/2” option but the CF in 1/2” gets pricey.

Hey fellas, what weight range are u guys that are using bolts? I was thinking about making my own kit but out of 7/16 bolts or 1/2 just for piece of mind? I’ve played around with a few different materials at home jumping on a grade 8, 3/8 i was able to bend it outside the hole.. 1/2 didn’t budge, I was thinking of trying 7/16. Also the sheer strength on 1/2 grade 5 is like 14k and some change so it would be a cheaper alternative and stronger than 3/8.. anyone have any experience with this before I do some of my own testing? I plan on buying a Irwin speedbor bit and making my own hand drill for season

Grade 8 3/8 will not let you down. A little bending is no biggie, and it takes a lot more to break them. Unless youre climbing rotten trees or going with lighter bolt materials no benefit to sizing up unless youre a really big dude. Shear strength doesnt matter with metal bolts (it does with carbon) as failure will be in bending.

I thought the same thing, now granted this is me standing at the complete edge of the bolt on the head jumping up and down.. the Alan cap screws that come in the kit snapped right at the threads, the grade 8-3/8 from my hardware just bent, 1/2 didn’t move.. IMG_2996.jpg

You guys are hard on the equipment.

That was in a live oak in my front yard, again I’m 290 size 15 shoe and I was jumping on it very hard.. it would have prolly been fine climbing with weight across bolt but worse case scenario u slip catch edge of bolt and it snaps.. I’m new to bolts this year and love the idea and plan to use it on the private I hunt next fall but need to set it up for me.

I think your cloths will rip or your bones break before the bolt will snap. But I understand you have to be comfortable. I got 270 and I feel totally secure on bolts. I was confident in the CF bolts too as I had many uneventful climbs, but then a couple guys on here said they had one that snapped. Hard to climb with confidence after that.

Cap screws from which kit?

And what i see is a manageable, non-catastrophic failure when subjected to loading far more than realistic worst case. They are rated for 12% elongation minimum meaning like a 1.5 in radius bend before breaking (and you probably slip off first, or the bending force drops).

Bending is a safety feature. Unless you are looking for some serious fall arrest (and there are better options) 3/8 gr 8 is fine.

I'm curious about a couple things...
Did the cap screws break INSIDE the hole or at the edge of the hole? Was the hole depth identical for each of the bolts tested?
And mattsteg just asked my next question...which "kit" are you using?
