What rifle is everyone using?

700 BDL 7mm Rem Magnum, Sako FinnBear 300 Weatherby , Weatherby Vanguard .243
I like 300 weatherby too. Hits like a truck. I have a custom rem 700 in 300 wthby with a bell and carlson stock. Knocks mulies over at 600+ yrds like a shotin tin cans.

My first gun was a Ruger 77/44 in .44 mag. My grandpa passed down his Browning A-bolt in 30-06 to me. I also have a TC Icon in .308, a Ruger American in 6.5 creedmoor, and an AR in .223. I've killed deer with all of them. My problem now is deciding which gun to bring on a hunt...

I sold most of my rifles years ago when I started handgun hunting. After moving away from my backyard range I’m not shooting enough to feel proficient past archery ranges with a handgun so I picked up a Tikka t3x lite in .308 a couple years ago. Love it. It shoots around an inch and has taken five animals the last two years. I needed a workhorse that would be lightweight, accurate, powerful enough for any game at reasonable distances and cheap enough that rough handling at an airport by a baggage handler wouldn’t land me on the evening news. My son hunts with my ar in 300 blackout. I’m in the market for another rifle for him now. I considered a lever gun for him but think I will go with a detachable mag bolt gun just for safety reasons. It will probably be another tikka just so I can use the rings and base off mine with his as I’m upgrading to a 30 mm scope on my rifle this year. Maybe 6.5 for his.

Although I prefer the bow, I've killed deer with a lot of different rifles. For the last few years I've been carrying my semi-custom Savage in 7mmSTW. Unless it is doe days. Then I use the old Mini-14 Ranch Rifle. It took its 53rd doe with 63 gr. GameKings, this past season. During alternative weapons season my muzz is a Remington 700ML .50cal. If I carry a handgun for alt. weapons, it is either a Lone Eagle Single Shot in .444 Marlin or Ruger Super Redhawk in 44.mag. If I get drawn for a special shotgun hunt, I take my Remington 870 with cantilever scope mount over the rifled slug barrel. I haven't used it in 10 yrs or so but my favorite, all time hunting rifle is my old Savage 99 in .308. A 180gr. GameKing out that thing lays em down.

I love my 270 Ruger all weather stainless. Best shooting gun I have. I did just buy a Model 70 in a 270 featherweight and havent shot it yet. I'm also a big fan of the 7mm-08 and 243. If you put the shot in the right place all you need is a 22 mag which arguably has killed more deer than any other caliber. I have used a 264 and killed a couple deer but its not worth the weight compared to the 270.

I use a stainless Ruger 77/50 muzzleloader topped by a Leupold. Ruger 77 all-weather 270 topped with a Zeiss, 1st saddle kill with it. Ruger Ranch 450 Bushmaster, Truglo Xtreme scope. It will make your ears bleed, but it’s a Hammer! I also use a Savage 16 weather warrior in 260 Rem, she wears a Nikon. Those are my go-to guns. My wife that is planning on trying a saddle this year is a Weatherby snob! Her 25-06 has a Cabela’s Magnitude 30 (Vortex made). I’m going to build a custom long range 338 Lapua Magnum this summer and I’m bound and determined to attemp a hunt from the saddle with it. Probably not the smartest idea, but why not. Variety is the spice of life!

What handguns did you use? I’ve been considering picking up a 10mm.

In Massachusetts we can't hunt deer with anything but shotgun, black powder or bow and arrow. I prefer bow but also love my Encore with a 50 cal black powder barrel on it. I have 700 BDL in 30/06 awesomeness, Marlin 1895 45/70 awesomeness, 742 Rem in 30/06 awesomeness!:)

I usually hunt on the ground during our gun season tracking or stalking. My go to is a 7600 in .35 Whelen with .225 grain hand loads topped with a1.25 to 4 Leupold vxr. Number 2 for sloppy days is a Winchester model 94 in .444 making cut to trapper size with a willians peep. When I sit a stand all day I’ll take a 700 mountain rifle in 7mm-08. When I hunt shot gun only areas an inexpensive Remington 870 in 20 gauge. Shot more really large bucks with the shot gun than anything else. Like everyone else’s I have plenty of other options but those are my go to items.

You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.” Isoroku Yamamoto

I shoot a Winchester 70 series 30-06.

Same here. Mine is an SS Ultimate Shadow that I bedded in a Bell and Carlson with a Zeiss Conquest on top. It’s treated me well as my only rifle.

T/C contender in 30-30 and 44 mag, S&W 29, Ruger bisley hunter in .41, Competitor pistol in 7mm-08 and .50ae. CVA Optima v2 muzzleloader pistol. There were probably some more I never connected with or can’t think of. There was also a Glock 20 in 10mm. Killed a few with it. Never was impressed with the penetration in f the 10mm but it was lightweight to carry and fun to practice with. I’ve been considering the new glock 40 in 10mm but I have an old Dan Wesson in 357 that’s been begging to fill that role and a rather long wish list of other gear also.

Model 94 A/E in 30-30. I had used it for a number of years. I put a gold ring and sling on it for my daughter to use this year.

I have my Dad’s model 70 in 30-06, with a 3-9 redfield on it. I have had more than one guy try to buy the RedField. One of the better scopes made. It is a shame they went out of business.

T/C contender in 30-30 and 44 mag...

Thinking about getting a Contender in 30-30. How do you like yours and how does it perform on deer at ranges of 100 yards and less?

Mine was a tack driver until I let some "gunsmith" bed it. Messed up my McMillan. Turns out he was more loud a talker than a real Smith.

That sucks. My old smith unfortunately has passed. Did all the work on the us biathlon team rifles during my time frame too. Damn good guy and smith. The good and honest ones are hard to come by!!!

I sold mine. The 30-30 with a 14”barrel shooting 125 grain NBT at about 2250 was killer on deer. Wish I still had it.

I’ve been running a Kimber Classic in 3006 now for a few years with a leupold vx3 2.5-8. Or if I’m tracking and a wet/snowy day I bring the Remington 7600 in 3006. Both awesome setups.

Savage .270 and .223
Browning BAR .270
H & S .35 whelen
TC Omega .50 cal.

Each kill nicely but the .35 whelen ain't very nice opposite of the bang end.

"That's all I can say about that"
