2019 contest hype thread

Va isnt quite that bad, but its still bad. Majority of the state youre issued 3 buck tags and 3 doe tags, buck tags can be filled anytime you want with no restrictions. If you fill your 3 doe tags you can purchase 3 more bonus tags for $18. You can fill as many doe tags as you'd like during archery and muzzle loader

I'm in VA and hunt a lot of DMAP areas.... In the area I hunt you can shoot 2 does a day, everyday that don't count toward your tags (only in DMAP areas). CHECK YOUR LOCAL REGS... don't go shooting a pile of does and blame me if that's not accurate for your area.

Not worth a side contest on it's own, but would be fun to track Pros vs Joes for the biggest scoring buck. Pros should win every time in theory, but there are enough Joes on here with access to decent hunting that there is a fighting chance. I will not be hunting out of NC this fall so likely will not even pull the trigger unless non hunting friends beg me for does again, so I will not be in the contest.
What do you consider a Pro?

Maybe have a rookie league? instead of "Pro vs. Joe" Might be fun.

Rookie= 1st deer harvest with a saddle or maybe 1st season hunting from saddle?

I'm not interested in any competition but public land kills should be higher points than private land.....

Sorry but this is the typical victim mentality. Someone else has it better than me so I should be advantaged by the system.

I hunt 100% on my own property and I went the last 5 years not killing a single deer until this past season. My property is so thick and dense and so hard to access it is nearly impossible to hunt by anyone’s methods you typically read about. I have watched nearly every hunt video shown or talked about on here and I sit and wish I had the open distance to view deer movement in that I see these guys have. I can assure you, it wouldn’t be worth filming my hunts because you can’t see past 30 yards from almost any where on the property. In the places you can see up to 50 yards you will not see a deer pass.

I know there are private, groomed properties where all you do is sit in a blind and wait fo the feeder to go off but that’s not all of them.

Reason #3: to get the newbies that want to participate to start posting stuff now to hit their minimum post count for the contest. We don't need this ridiculousness for the week leading up to the contest :)

I already have a plan to get rid of that nonsense this year so there is no need for anyone to start posting uselessly.

And you lead us to a last minute victory! What a deer, indeed

If anything about this contest becomes anything about "PRO" I will shut it down in a heartbeat.

It has gotten lost on here lately but the reason I host this forum is all about fun for me. Deer hunting and more specifically saddle hunting has always been my favorite hobby. I've always had a strong disdain for the big time hunting industry. It made me sick watching all those shows where people were hunting on exclusive private farms, saying stupid slogans and drinking mountain dew in a treestand. I know I can't change the hunting industry, but I can keep that stuff off of here. This site is a place for the average guy to talk about hunting in the real world.

Preach it brother. Well said.

Wile I am hoping to be in the contest this year after watching it last year. I really just can’t wait for season to get here! I love nothing more than sitting out there and enjoy nature! The reason I like this sight so much is because everyone helps everyone out. Most groups on fb or anywhere else always have some people shaming others for what they shot. Here it’s not like that just a good group of people that love hunting and tinkering with gear to make the hunt all that much better!

I wish I could "Like" this multiple times. Thanks @redsquirrel! We're with you brother!

I didn't quite understand the rules when that was posted. Now that i understand better of how it works i wouldnt have commented at all.
With that said..... If we can't agree there are advantages to hunting private land then there can't be a debate....I'll concede and admit to being a whining victim.
Good luck to the everyone who participates. I'm pretty pumped about this upcoming season too

Fully agree, and I would only support or suggest something fun and nothing Waddell style! I meant the saddle pros, such as yourself and the moderators, the Tethrd crew, AH crew, OOL, DanO, etc. Not necessarily pro hunters in the true sense, just those more invested in saddle hunting than the average Joe.

Nah, no need to complicate things. Heck my goal is to beat @g2outdoors, the last thing I want is him on my team!! :D

You're missing my point. That's exactly what I'm trying to prevent. For such a small community there has been too much hate lately. We're not going to add to it on here. There will be no more competition than between team 1, 2, etc.

I look forward to it. The real value in things like this are the all-in-good-fun trash talking and the fact that something like this helps motivate me to get up crazy early on cold mornings late in the season when my sensible self is telling my hunting-obsessed self to hit snooze and roll over. That sensible guy is annoying.... he keeps telling me not to hit the "add to cart" button too.

One of the things I really enjoyed last year was interacting with teammates on the team specific thread throughout the contest. It was fun sharing hunts and details with random guys from around North America (was going to say country but I was on a team with @MJH and @Ontariofarmer too). Its a way to meet some new people and get some insight into how hunting is different (and the same) across the wide spectrum of conditions represented here. That is why I like the random nature for the team selection. We all play by different rules and regulations along with opportunities depending on where we are at. The random selection help level that out.

For me it was less about the competition than a means to share experiences and celebrating the successes of others on here, even the competition.
