He’s talking about doing just like you and then standing on it. Then put all your weight on the top post with one foot and lifting the platform with the other. Then cam back over. It’s not necessary

Good:) would just suck to have it break when leaning out for a shot! Glad you're taking the precautions needed to stay safe!
And being "surprised" by a sudden failure when I have a weapon (sharp broadheads, hair trigger firearm, etc) is not a comforting thought.
I can imagine all kinds of ugly scenarios.

Obviously some people need to go hunting
You mean we are supposed to hunt with our gear?! I thought it was just to crow over or complain about... Lol

Ok on a serious note. I am writing this while standing on my gen1 Predator. I ordered this the day they started taking pre-orders. At that time there were no commercially produced platforms and we were all rigging up tree stands seats that were not at all intended for what we were using them for. I was thrilled to get my hands on a good platform and even knowing some would fail I would have gladly purchased one knowing it would be exchanged for free if that happened. It was still the best platform and customer service available at the time. Tetherd put their necks out to bring product to a developing market. @g2outdoors @Erniepower my hats still off to you guys. Thanks for bringing product to the market and for taking care of customers!

(and no, I am not affiliated with Tethrd nor have I ever received free product from Tethrd)

Mechanical leverage or advantage is a great thing. Hand me a cheater pipe and I can brake a bolt no problem. I know of no calculation that can determine how humans are going to treat their equipment. This is one reason why a safety factor is created. If Tethrd knew the Gen 1 would fail, they would not have release them. Now there are known factors that were not considered at the time of Gen 1 release. Thus I own a Gen 2 and so glad to own it. I met with the Tethrd team at Alabama Hunting Expo. Great bunch of guys who were excited to help others get into Saddle hunting. Their videos are what lead me to this site. I do not do FB, all my information comes from this forum. I appreciate learning of all the successes and failures brought to our attention. How Tethrd handles this issue I have no input. I hope all my friends on this site have a safe hunting season.

Another note so there is no misunderstanding, I am not suggesting anyone misused the equipment that failed.

So how do you know if your platform is a gen1?

Glad to hear the OP is ok and being taken care of. I have a Gen1 as I supported Tethrd from their pre-sale. I had no idea there was even an issue with the Gen1 platforms until reading this thread (guess I was living under a rock). I knew they made a Gen 2 but I thought it was due to a noise issue with the Gen 1 which I easily solved with some stealth strips and wax. I'm hoping my platform won't break but will have to be much more careful as I admittedly have stepped on the platform with only my lineman's belt before attaching my tether (obviously this will no longer be the case-I just thought being attached with a lineman's belt was "good" enough and I was being safe). I only say this to prove the point that there are likely others out there doing the same stupid things I had been doing without realizing it and with gear that has been found to have some concerns without being notified. I do feel Tethrd could/should have handled this differently. I would even pay for shipping of the new bottom portion of the platform (and ship the other one back if desired) to know the platform I'm using is more safe. The added weight is worth the cost to come home to my family. I bought the platform not because of reduced weight but just to have a manufactured platform as I didn't trust myself to make one. I will contact Tethrd to see if there is a system that can be worked out for at least replacing the bottom. I worry how long they will honor the "when it breaks we'll replace it" and cross over to the normal wear/tear caused failure. Maybe I'm overthinking it but I do have concerns now moving forward that I never had before. As someone previously mentioned trust is a very powerful thing and hard to get back after it's lost.

I have a gen 1 as well. I asked them what my options are. None until it breaks is what I was told. Not going to get in the details, but I was VERY unimpressed with how it was handled. Sure hope it doesn’t break when I’m on an out-of-state hunt this year.

Maybe the answer was to break it when you had the conversation. Seems like the only option you had.

I bought some steps, new run production. Issue was discovered, producer of said steps stepped up (pun intended) and payed for shipment back and returned steps once issue fixed. I have made multiple purchases from said producer since then.
Moral of the story, treat your customers right and they will come back and back again.
Yes, I would pay more for something made here. I think of it as keeping food in our mouths. Quality has gone up in China, I wonder what happened to the ones that made mistakes, their families? There's alot more to "overseas" production then meets the eye....
Those are the people that I go out of my way to give repeat business to.

This is the issue. They demonstrated that they can definitely effectively reach consumers when they want to. They could have and should have let everybody know about the issue, and have let folks make the call whether or not they wanted to use a platform that had been redesigned due to failure before all the preorders shipped out.

In my opinion, and like everyone else here, I have an one, the proper move for Tethrd would be to post a notification on their website indicating a potential problem with the Gen 1 platforms. Send an email or registered letter to all of the original buyers of Gen 1’s to notify them of a potential problem. Offer to replace the platform portion of the assembly if the owners will ship the entire assembly (minus the strap) back to Tethrd. The shipping would be on the owners of each platform and not covered by Tethrd. Tethrd should replace the platform portion onto the original owners post and return it covering the return shipping. The old Gen 1 platforms could then be recycled through their platform supplier to be melted down into the new Gen 2 platforms. Anyway, that’s my 2 cents.

At the rate of failures of Gen1 platforms, Tethrd's response has been extraordinary. Amazing.
