Predator Platform broke on me last night

5 broke? 1000's sold?
In their response to me they said there is only a limited number left out there. They have never gave numbers how many were made and sold vs how many are left that I know of.

I have a gen 1 as well. I asked them what my options are. None until it breaks is what I was told. Not going to get in the details, but I was VERY unimpressed with how it was handled. Sure hope it doesn’t break when I’m on an out-of-state hunt this year.

Take the Gen 1 out to the backyard with a sledgehammer and break the platform where all Gen 1's are breaking. Send it back and get a Gen 2. Problem solved.

The way Tethrd has handled this issue, I think this about the only viable option for an owner of a Gen1 platform. You either break with a hammer or break it while 20 feet up in a tree......

Wow!!! Had I known they handled customer service like this I would have never purchased my Gen2 platform from them.

Just cancelled my Mantis order. Thanks for the heads up on how they handled this situation. Not replacing until one breaks? Shows where their heads are.

In my opinion, and like everyone else here, I have an one, the proper move for Tethrd would be to post a notification on their website indicating a potential problem with the Gen 1 platforms. Send an email or registered letter to all of the original buyers of Gen 1’s to notify them of a potential problem. Offer to replace the platform portion of the assembly if the owners will ship the entire assembly (minus the strap) back to Tethrd. The shipping would be on the owners of each platform and not covered by Tethrd. Tethrd should replace the platform portion onto the original owners post and return it covering the return shipping. The old Gen 1 platforms could then be recycled through their platform supplier to be melted down into the new Gen 2 platforms. Anyway, that’s my 2 cents.
I agree they should step up and address the problem but actually admitting, in writing that there is a problem opens them up to MASSIVE liability. Even more so than just ignoring it. I'm sure they have some legalese disclaimer that will mitigate culpability should someone get hurt using it. If they splash it on their website that's just asking to be sued into the stone ages. They really just need to recall them and take the hit. The good will and customer loyalty that would buy would pay off the costs in no time. Hell, they could even prorate it and still make people happy. I can guarantee you if someone gets hurt using their product, disclaimer or not, they are going to pay much, much more. Especially since they know about it. I was going to order one but I think I'll stick with my DIY LW platform and save my money til I'm sure the bugs are worked out.

Geez..."Only a limited number left out there"?? That must mean the vast majority of them have failed. If that is indeed an accurate statement, then how on Earth can they say they won't take a return until they break?

I have 3 Preds. 2 gen1s and 1 gen 2. I do really like them, but they have never let me down...YET. Maybe they never will, but I hate the thought of a failure hanging over me. I'm not afraid of a fall. My tether or LB will prevent that, but I do wonder about an "in-tree" injury.
And I sure as hell would be boiling mad if a failure had a negative impact on a trip to Iowa. I can draw there every 4 years. At my age, I don't have a lot of Iowa trips left. Nothing grates on me more than gear failure that shouldn't happen.

One more point about setting a stand.
The type of bark has an influence on how well a Predator (or other stands) set.
Hard bark, thin bark, usually sets nice and tight without toe hooking. But thick, soft bark tends to get chewed up by the teeth and it leaves divots in the tree. After a little shifting of weight, those divots get torn open a little bit and the stand seems less tight on the tree. Resetting the stand doesn't always fix it because the stand wants to just settle back into the same divots. Toe hooking solves that problem, but toe hooking isn't Predator-friendly.

Bark type probably has an influence on whether a guy feels the need to toe hook.

I suppose that’s what I mean by “threads”. As in, I’ve seen it IN threads. My bad. Not good speakage about breakage.

I have 3 Preds. 2 gen1s and 1 gen 3. I do really like them, but they have never let me down...YET. Maybe they never will, but I hate the thought of a failure hanging over me. I'm not afraid of a fall. My tether or LB will prevent that, but I do wonder about an "in-tree" injury.

You are gonna open a whole new can of worms. Now they are going to be complaining why they weren’t told about the gen 3. Lol

I toe hook religiously simply because I don’t think the Pred batwing is good enough. I see YT videos and such where dudes be all “it bites so hard!” and it’s literally doing a Chubby Checker on the tree. I only hook an inch or two, but it really helps. I don’t think about bark type that often because I’m almost always in an oak or chestnut, but I can see what you mean. I’m honestly more worried about breaking the strap than the aluminum, but I think the whole “in-tree” injury thing is scary, especially if you’re pulling an Infalt in some swamp nowhere. I can set it by hand with a lot of strap tightening, but I really like to release a little strap tension and toe hook a bit instead of simply camming so hard that it’s audible. I have few worries as I am using a G2.
I also want to say that Tethrd’s accessories are dope, for what it’s worth. I’m just as critical of customer service and manufacturing (any company) as the next person, but their ropes and sacs [sic] and G2 Predator and such are some of the best in class in my nobody-asked-for-it opinion.

Maybe the answer was to break it when you had the conversation. Seems like the only option you had.

Not going to say the thought didn’t cross my mind.
But at that point I’m stooping to their level.
I am better than that.
Also, I think they would have a hunch that I intentionally broke it - It would probably be a long drawn out process to get another, if I got another one.

I enjoy the product and I just want them to make it right, as I would and have done for my customers.
