LWCG Ambush Platform

On the front end, saddle hunting is not for the financially faint of heart.
Theoretically it's not that bad. I can hunt any tree in the woods with say a ten cranford steps, a set of heliums, a hand drill and set of bolts etc (all about a hundred bucks), a commercial saddle is about 200, or a fleece saddle DIY and cheap rch for say 50 bucks. ROS for say 60-80 bucks. 20 bucks in rope and 15 bucks in carabiners. Starting from zero with no diy i guess 400 or so? Or 300 with a ring of bolts. Not cheap, but not really worse than other mobile options, and cheaper than a crapton of preset stands. The problem is knowing how to spend that starting from zero, and in buying 500 different climbing methods, 6 platforms, and 65 different types of rope like some rope-totin' Charlie Bronson wannabe.

When I'm buying a piece of machined metal for a lot of money, be it sticks or platforms, I remind myself that there is hunting clothing that cost more. Plenty of Sitka clothing is $400+ plus for one piece. Literally, sewn fabric that will wear over time cost more than machined aluminum that will last your entire hunting career. No one sheds a tear, when some poor soul purchases $1000 in Sitka wear.

I just shed a tear reading that....
Anyone want to adopt a "poor" saddlehunter??

To be fair - most of these things are luxury items that we're all thoroughly blessed to be able to blow our money on. No one really needs any of the ~$40+/step climbing methods, $2/foot ropes, $300 platforms, etc. And the current environment you can really try most things in a largely consequence-free environment (as long as you use fall protection) and generally buy and sell at a minimal loss. Unlike that Sitka stuff.

Serious question - Why not just continue to use the Assassin you had?

Also, I am all for function over anything else but with that price tag it really should come with both in my opinion.

I sold my Assassin cuz they were getting snapped up pretty quickly for $450-475

That sale funded my Mantis & Predator

I expect the edge quality on the platform to not be the best. Hopefully not like those sticks. That is awful!

I ordered one because the predator was a little small to fit 2 adult size feet.

I know this wasn't directed at me but I think this is worth discussion.

I have not used the Assassin (would love to have one) but that was manufactured by Lonewolf, not LWCG. Assuming that the Ambush is going to be the same quality as the Ambush might not be a good idea, especially with what I've seen from some of the other LWCG products.

Hopefully I'm wrong.

At the time the original assassin was made and sold it was by andrae D. So I think you can say the quality could be similar. I love my LWCG sticks.

I can't blame LW for charging what they think the market will bear. My question is to the market. Why would that stand be worth so much more than the Predator? I don't see anything new or novel about it. Not trying to belittle anyone who has bought it but just thinking I must be missing something.

What would make an assassin worth $600?

the predator is to small. Late season size 13 boots don’t jive well.

I agree, i like the size, weight and can see multiple ways of using it without a saddle. Im not a fan of the bridge, would rather be connected by safety harness.

I’ve been hunting off the original Assassin for 12 years. I would definitely buy a new one if I lost the one I have. It’s a lot bigger than the predator so if you want a bigger platform its the way to go. 12 years ago I think I paid $250 but it came with that odd harness system but I just used a Trophy line saddle.

It’s just a matter of size but cost is waaaaaay up there since no other commercial choices

A roomier platform although it is heavier and of course won’t pack up as compact but its still smaller than carrying a full size hang on stand to use

Just an option that some would prefer like a size L or XL Mantis, a size 1 or 2 flex , etc

I still haven’t gotten shipping notification....

Bet if this sale takes off there will be a predator XL version, and several other options out there in the near future. Atleast somewhere before next season I suppose. Competition is good for all but some of the price points are getting tough to understand.

All hunting stuff is priced ridiculously. About 10 years ago I would never imagine a bare bow would cost $1,200! Or a single climbing stick $90....insanity!!!

As long as consumers will continue to pay these prices manufactures will continue to push that envelope....
