Spring 2020 Gobbler Season

Alabama passed this year you can bow hunt from a tree. I like the hiking around aspect of turkey hunting so I don’t plan to make that endeavor this year. That said, it’s suppose to rain tonight so I’m thinking about hiking in and setting up on the green field I saw a gobbler on last weekend. Thinking of setting up with a pop up ground blind and deer hunting them at least until the rain quits? My thought is if the rain quits and nothing hits the field I can get up hike after some.

Thoughts?

Any tips for this style? Any calling or dead silent? Set up how close to the field? Leave multiple windows open or just the one viewing the field. Trying to figure out how to approach this.

Thanks! In all fairness, I did shoot a fall hen with the bow once, but tried for years to get a spring gobbler with the shotgun and could never make it happen. Pretty proud moment for me to finally make it happen...even though I did get a little bit lucky!
Nothing wrong with a little luck. Congrats

Exactly what I’m doin this morning. Light rain for another hour, found 2 lone pines on a knob near a small green field. No gobbles yet but I suspect they haven’t hit the ground yet....

Just soft yelp sequence every 15-20 mins depending on what the rest of the birds are doing

Let the other birds kinda dictate. A few soft yelps every 15-20 min let them know your there. I’ve never heard a bird make much noise in a down pour but thunder will make them gobble and the hens will give excited yelps and cackles.
Like deer hunting find where there is a game trail going in and out of the field where you think the birds are most likely to enter the field to set up. Or if there is a low grass/ dirt area with tall grass around it they may fly in to to dry out.
This is the situation most would throw out a decoy set. Decoys are very successful in situations like this (if birds are around)

Rough morning here today but caught a glimpse of this guy and was able to put the sneak on him. Third bird in four hunts and my season is over...

My first turkey ever, very exciting hunt and couldn't be happier with the results. Turkey hunter for life now. This bird had a 9 1/2 inch beard with just over 1 inch spurs. Called in and shot him at 31 yards with a 12 gauge from a ground blind. These birds are very majestic and beautiful, to see them strut and gobble in the wild is breathtaking and a hunt i will NEVER forget!

Congratulations on a beautiful bird . Now that your hooked try it with a bow. You can use your ground blind it is a blast.
