I have everything you just listed and would highly recommend all of them. I was nervous about the obsidians for the same reason you noted, but called FL and they told me that for every one of those negative reviews there's a 100 guys saying they are bomb proof. I have yet to put a single tear in my. Granted, I'm of the opinion that if you can walk through briars or take an extra 20 steps to go around that I'll take the 20 steps every time as walking through briars is just extra noise. Obviously there are times when it can't be avoided and mine have yet to rip from those times. Just avoid briars when can and stay away from a legit thorn bush and you'll be fine.
I've got a few small holes in my kiln hoody, but for the amount I've worn it it's hardly note worthy. Wool will eventually show some wear, just the nature of the beast, but it's pros are worth it. Little bit of nylon thread and you can patch just about any hole.
FL gear doesn't necessarily make you a better hunter, but it does make it easier to sit out there all day IMO. Which if you're an average hunter, which is where I'd currently rate myself, time in the stand at the right time of year is the best thing you can do to increase your odds.
