Hoist rope

I've found that the diameter of cord that's needed to comfortably pull up a late-season pack (warm clothes are heavy...heavy enough that paracord can be smaller than ideal) and the diameter of cord that is easy to fig-8 a sufficient length on my fingers (zingit is great for that)..are 2 different size cords on the wrong side of each other.
I can figure 8 around my palm and my thumb about 45 feet paracord which is enough.

I've probably been using the wrong finger, and really it's more that for some reason I've stuck with a piece that's about 1 foot shorter that I want sometimes rather than rig a new one.

I couldn't go around my pinky and thumb in any reasonable amount of time but my palm I can. Too many finger collisions.

The HSS hoist rope is really great. I settled on it after the Doyle was sold out and it works fine. It clips in molly loops tight and it’s really small. I’ve heard people say it sucks because you can use the crank to fish your bow up? Just pull your bow up and wind it up, great for $15

Based on this thread I decided to try out some 3/8s.

I have seen people using pinky thumb
That's what I was considering, or downsize slightly (should still be OK for bow and pull-down of rap rope) to something like 9/64 amsteel which I can easily fig-8 50 ft of.

Anybody try a Squids Ergodyne? Looks like an interesting possibility.

How much is that compared to paracord?

After one hunt with it I give 3/8” webbing two thumbs way up (1) easier on your hands up and down the tree with heavier gear and (2) does not tangle during storage or in brushy / twiggy areas around the tree base as bad as paracord.

And here’s a fun story, yesterday I grunted at a shooter buck and and doe, and the doe unfortunately led that buck to the base of my tree dead down wind and where I had no shot. Sorry gang 3 o’clock is my kryptonite in a Jx3 especially with the big vines hanging off this tree. As the buck walked away all I got was his butt in my good shooting lane. Half hour later they appear 300 yards away in the bean field, I decided to get down and attempt a stalk along a tree row. I sent my bow down and tossed the rope. I look up and that buck is now walking across the beans right at me. Yougottabekiddingme.com I look at my bow in terror. I need a HOOK. Thanks to the JX3 hands trembling and fumbling I whipped this thing up miraculously retrieved my bow and had an arrow knocked with the shooter at 40. Dang it, few little twigs across a lane at 25 yards where he paused. He walked on, end of story, heartbreak, but man that was a fun hour. At times I had to take deep breaths to get my heart rate down.

This is my current favorite....

Lots of people like the paracord wound in a figure 8, but I always end up with a knotted mess at some point.

Doyle’s looks nice, but maybe a bit bulky and heavy for personal preference.

I keep this hoist in the top of my dump pouch above my tether and lineman belt. After 3-4 seasons it’s still working well.

I have this also & really like it.

I raise and lower my bow with my climbing rope. I pulled it back up just at dark when I heard a snort. I couldn't see anything through the scope. It was too dark.

I have 2 saddle setups I'm running this year... 1 is the primo gear (doyles) and the other is my setup from last season (paracord)

On the hunts with last season setup (paracord pull up) I sure do miss having the doyles. I take my time and figure 8 roll up the paracord and it works good almost every time but trees with lots of limbs (what I prefer) sometimes give me a fit with the paracord tangling in the limbs. It is also 1 more rope I gotta take the time to unroll and roll back up. The strap version of doyle hasnt gotten tangled up yet and it just retract on its own. Doyles heavier but I think the extra weight worth it....I keep the doyle in an EWO fleece pouch on my right side lower back on my hunt vest and being able to just reach back and grab and hook up and climb is a luxury in mind eyes and it does save a little time

Paracord on a small 3d printed winder (like a cheap kids kite real). Looped with a grimlock biner for the bow.
