I recently became interested in a somewhat customized saddle and was looking into options. Someone here mentioned that Cruzr would do some modifications if you called them so I checked in on that. Dealing with Chad (their owner) was a true pleasure. This is what I wanted:
• Something slightly larger than their size 3 because in my experience with my size I cannot get the dump pouches as far forward as I would like.
• Some gear loops on the top row of MOLLE
• A bit of MOLLE and gear loops on the lower chassis
• Camo mesh
• A custom bridge that is openable and preferably not Oplux
Attached you can see what I ended up with. In my opinion they nailed it. Having hunted a fair amount from a Mantis and Phantom, and tried a few others, I can say this is by far the most comfortable saddle I have used. I do not mean by just a little bit, either. Every single aspect of it is more comfortable in the tree, whether expanded or not. This includes using the linesman’s loops and the angle/placement of the leg straps. Whereas I was previously limited in terms of how long I could hunt comfortably, I cannot imagine a situation in which that will be an issue moving forward. Whether I sit, lean, expand, or anything else I cannot feel a single place where there is undesirable pressure. I also cannot put my finger on it, but it also simply feels safer in the tree. It could be the surface area or something else about the geometry that I cannot identify.
The overall construction of the saddle seems to be top notch. I really like the wider waist belt compared to others I have tried. I also like the placement of the leg strap buckles. The adjustment of the waist belt is super easy, and I opted for the upgraded Cobra buckle. The mixture of both loose and tight MOLLE along with the gear loops seems to be the best of all worlds. I also think the camo job sets things off a little bit in terms of breaking things up while in the tree.
The service was great as well. I told them what I wanted, and once payment was received they began work on it immediately. I have the saddle in hand less than 10 working days later. Obviously that timing can vary based on many things, but I consider that darn fast compared to most other custom options out there.
I want to be clear that I am just a satisfied customer. I have no loyalty or affiliation to anyone beyond that. I know many folks are interested in something a little different. While I would expect much of what I have discussed here to apply to any Cruzr, the ability to do some customization so easily was the icing on the cake. Overall I could not be more pleased.
