I finally settled on a 2017 f-150 with the 3.5. It’s an extended cab (or whatever fancy name they call it now) with 8 ft bed and matching cap. I was hesitant with the long bed and diving/parking. It’s less than a 10% difference. I might even be a long bed guy from now on. Having said that if I were you and you’re leaning towards a truck I’d go with a double cab with 6.5ft bed. It is a longer wheelbase like my truck but you aren’t going to Baja. I’m short and wife is so car seats can work with us and extended cab.
But with your height I’d want a double cab. I do think most of us can get away with 80% of our daily use with a double cab short bed.then a trailer for the occasional longer stuff. Or a bed extender. Or even a trailer hitch extender.
I was torn with an suv or truck. I’m happy with my purchase but everyone has different needs. Also part of my decision is that my mpg is right there with the 4 runner. Most of the v8s are nowmuch better with mpg as well.
