This method is a bit risky. It is quite difficult to control the descent rate and in an event that you get twisted up you could unhook the rope from the figure 8. It also wants to open up really quickly which creates a very jerky descent. This rope configuration using the figure 8 is how one of our members here fell and got banged up. I've used it and being able to stop is nice, but it it isn't worth the risks to me. I also noticed that if you don't feed it properly it likes to jump over itself which can create a small drop too.You can go up with the 8 too
