I tried.
I m not a fan of one stick,for me.

I really like my spikes and feel much more comfortable with them.
And just don’t care for sticks. So what do I do . Just find places where I can use my spikes. Or a climber - - ugh !
Anybody else have the same feelings ?

Did you try SRT? If not there is always the Bucket!

I am in the exact some boat. Love my spikes and can use them 90% of the places I hunt. Looking for an acceptable second method. I have the EWO ultimate one stick but have not been fond of that method YET! I am currently testing out my version of 2TC, only using stuff I already have laying around. 2TC method is not bad, but does not work well with the JX3. I have other more traditional saddles (Flex, Phantom, Cruiser XC) that may need to be put back in the rotation If i find 2TC to work, or try one sticking again. Plenty of options, just not one that is 100% ideal for my style.

What about just meet somewhere half way in the middle and try some kind of tree steps?

I have. My first method was the Steppladder (even with naider and swaider). Too much fiddle trying to get it tight to the tree(depending on bark)
I have not tried squirrel steps although have have something similar for a ring of steps. Might have to research best way to attach as a single step to see how that might work.

Yeah I get that. I have 2 ways up a tree currently. One is a set of sticks and the other is also the WE steps. If I had to give one of them up it would be the tree steps. But I find them really handy for weird whacky trees and tend to like them better than sticks in those situations. The fiddle factor isn’t great I know. But that’s also why they aren’t my only option. I’m tempted to try some other kind of single step too. The thing I don’t care for is how much they sag down under weight while climbing, which the WE steps don’t do for me anyway. And I can get both feet on them for the most part if I need to. Also like being able to grab the bar of them when climbing just like a small ladder. So therefore I stick with them for now.

Been in a quest to find the “perfect” climbing method that’s as easy and comfortable as it is versatile, mobile, light weight and quiet in all situations. Still haven’t found that. Pretty sure it doesn’t exist. But I keep my eyes open still anyway.

You’re not alone. I don’t much care for the 1 stick. Whatever the way up the tree, I think it’s all about practice and prioritizing what’s important to you in a climbing method. The quest for the perfect way up the tree is futile, but it’s a journey many of us have taken many times. Hell I’ve bought/sold wild edge steps 3+ times.

Btw I should have also said I went down the one stick hole too for a little while. Built my own stick etc and spent way too much on it than I should have. I’ve climbed one stick successfully a few times but at the end of the day it seemed harder for me than it was worth. Maybe just cause I haven’t put in the practice or got comfortable with it, but it felt to me like there was too much about it that was uncomfortable/potentially dangerous for me to really get into it.

And yes I have bought and sold the same piece of gear 3 times too. Not climbing stuff but a platform. But same thing, just going around in circles with some things until I have to either settle on it or cut myself off and move on. It’s hard sometimes, especially on the wallet.

one sticking is the most dangerous way to climb a tree and for a forum as safety conscious as this one is (or used to be) I have yet to grasp how it is is constantly promoted. If I had the option of one sticking or staying at home I would never take my pajamas off.

I just love when you guys come out of the wood work on a particular topic. Always feels good to know I’m not the only one that’s not necessarily into whatever the current popular trend might be at the time.

Same. I’ve always preferred spurs and now that I also repel… I love the method even more.

one sticking is noisy.

but it is legal everywhere so… I’ll probably add it next year

I'm the complete opposite as far as my feelings on one sticking. It checks every box for me and I personally love climbing that way and if I couldn't do it any longer for some reason I don't know what I'd do to get myself up a tree. I tease others ( all in good fun and never to insult) when they cry about how they hate it or it doesn't work for them but honestly I don't judge others as everyone has their own comfort level, ability, flexibility, agility, coordination, strength etc... and therefore a climbing method that works well for one person may be an impossible task for another. Every climbing method has it's pros and cons and depending on how and where you hunt determines which method is most beneficial for your own application. The best part is YOU get to choose whatever method you want to employ and it doesn't matter how others feel about it.

For some strange reason it seems one stick climbing became the latest rage but like all fads it'll be short lived and fade away especially once deer season opens up everywhere and guys start focusing on the important stuff - like killing deer! I say get your azz up a tree any which way you want and don't worry if your not running with the "in" crowd. The climb is just a means to get yourself to hunting height, nothing more nothing less.

I like one sticking. It’s my preferred method.

multiple sticks is runner up but I hate managing multiple sticks.

I absolutely hate Spurs…. I had to climb poles for work. I hate it.

No it’s not…lol

The guys using spurs sure aren’t abiding by OSHA guidelines….
