Team 5 - 2021

I have a compound I’ll ship you ridiculous fools!

my state will let me hunt with a gun in two more weeks, and I may make some trips between now and then back to NH and VT. I’ve got a lot of season left ahead of me. Though, not sure if I’ll be able to stay in the saddle once snow flies.

Goodluck! I’ve taken the past week off for the most part, but The regular firearm season starts Saturday here in NY, so I’ll be back at it again.

Flew to Mexico on Monday and had to get on a plane to fly back that evening due to family stuff. Somehow worked out for me to get a day out today.

Bumped two does on the other side of the river when I came in. Plan is to take anything I see today. Let’s flippin gooooo!!!

The spot I went to today has posted property on both sides of the public property. the public property is about 50 yards wide but after you get in about 400 yards there's a swamp, once you get through the swamp it opens up. When I got to the swamp I could hear a deer breaking through the ice running from me because my scent was blowing towards it. I walked around for 2 1/2 hours and never climbed a tree. I found a couple rubs and two treestands but that's it. I figured I would go back to the swamp and see if I could find a spot but ended up falling in to mid thigh LOL. OnX said I did 2 1/2 miles in 2 1/2 hours.

Taking a real gun with a real scope like a real deer hunter tomorrow. I find shooting a rifle more difficult than archery at this point. Nevertheless, satisfied enough with the final 4 grouping At 100 yards I’m taking her to the woods.19B106C5-60F3-47DB-85D6-DC5819ADF601.jpeg

Yesterday I decided to give my self a break after weeks of hunting from a tree everyday. I did some still hunting / slow scouting. Long story short, I saw a lot of deer… and then…. I was gonna set up in a saddle high up on a ridge near a bunch of fresh sign. I heard a commotion on the other side of the saddle. Out comes a hot doe, followed by the biggest buck I’ve ever seen personally (dead or alive) and right in his heels is a coy wolf. I grunted and the buck charged me. I stopped him, in thick brush, and took a shot through the crap. Shot was good. The buck ducked under the shot as he crouched to spring off. The shot skimmed his back. He bolted. I grunted again. He stopped and came back! He kept big trees between us as he approached. He got to 12 yards and peered toward me around a tree. All I had was a head shot and with the recurve that just wasn’t gonna happen. He slipped off. The coy wolf stood there and watched the whole thing. That buck never once glanced back toward that dog, never. He wasn’t the slightest bit bothered by that big dog on his heels. I’m completely screwed now. I’ve got buck fever bad. This deer is a absolute giant. Gotta run, I need to get in there and find this deer while he’s so damn fired up.
