I started with the gear ties and they worked ok. I had two major issues: they kept breaking on me because they’re being bent at the same point over and over, and I had to unwrap them with each move, then wrap them back on.
Then I tried the rubber washer. It worked ok for me. When I went to come down I had to feed it back through the quick link so that it was out of the way for the pull down. Not bad, and certainly cheap.
Then I saw the idea with the hitch pin clip and tried that. It worked well once I found the correct size of pin. I made up a piece of spliced Dynaglide for it similar to the Ohm. Really my only complaint was with the clanking while setting up since it would often hit the quick link, and then stowing it since it was a bit bigger.
My family got me the Ohm for my birthday and I really like it. It’s smaller than the hitch pin clip and doesn’t clank either. Love the spliced cord attachment and the fact I can leave it tight on the rope as I rappel down then it will pop free when I need it to. It also packs smaller with my rope as well. Hadn’t even thought about using it to wrap my rope since I use the dropout bag but that’s also a good use.
It’s not real expensive and for what I do, it seems to work the best for me so well worth the price.
