Wild Edge/Primal Step "Single stick"

Anyone ever considered using just one Primal or Wild Edge step for "single sticking"?
I get using multiple steps vs single "stick" but is there a hybrid solution out there?

I’ve considered this, but haven’t tried it. I think you wouldn’t be able to stretch each move as high as one or no sticking due to having to be able to flip the stepp up. Easier to pull a stick or platform straight up than to flip a well set stepp up. But for the space/weight saving, a few in hers per move would be an easy sacrifice.

I “one-Stepped” earlier this year due to forgetting some gear on a trip.

Used a WE Stepp and some webbing for an aider. Worked well, the only downside was untying and re tying the knot. It limited how far I could stretch out my moves, but it got the job done.

If a one-stick with a cam cleat is a 8/10 on ease of climbing, I’d give the WE Stepp a 5/10.

For sure could be done but why.... they're about a pound each... Tethrd one stick weighs about the same and u an get multiple sticks that are within a pound d of that.... if you're only taking one to the woods, then it's easier to one stick off an actual stick

Real world testing….you can’t beat it! Way to make due and get up a tree!

If you’re wanting to use WE Stepps I would recommend using 3 and a Knaider/Swaider.
Very light and you can get pretty high.

I also wouldn’t use WE Stepps without a Gripr from Genesis 3D Printing.

I've used two and a black diamond etrier which can get me around 15 feet or so. I girth hitch an amsteel loop to the bar on the steps to attach the aider. A decent amount of trees branch out at 15 feet around here so it works pretty good and will get me above tall grass or brush if I need to see. I attach the etrier with a piece of cord to my saddle when climbing so it's easier to retrieve off the step for the next one up.
The steps nest together and I wrap the etrier up with the steps and clip it to a buckle strap on my backpack for transport. I'll usually use a ring of steps in conjunction with the step at hunting height.

This is a solid approach.. I took 5 into the field all year this year and typically did 3 WE steps up the tree and one just to the left and slightly above my platform.. works pretty well... I'd also agree.. you either want the Gripr or a kydex holster... I made the holster and it worked pretty well but version II would for sure have some changes. I'm going to be working on one sticking this summer so I'll see how that goes. I think I'm going away from the WE steps because I tend to go "Good enough" when doing the knot and with these, the saying "Good enough, isn't" applies.... ended up cussing at my self a few times this year while hanging up in the tree. When you get em on the tree right, though, they're solid as anything.. i just think my climbing style and personality requires a slightly different method.

Use a cam buckle strap and it makes one stepping a breeze.
You gave me an idea but it's probably not necessary. Using the "USA" attachment and a soft shackle or amsteel button around the bar and through the loop on the USA attachment might be an option for a no metal approach without needing to tie the W.E. knot and may be easier for some to fine tune a prusik compared to the W.E. knot.
I have the stuff laying around, I'll give it a shot tonight and see how it works.

This has always intrigued me but my climbing system with 3 steps is so easy. I will give this a whirl in turkey season this spring. Need to at least try it

this is my setup n I love it. Super light n compact
I like this setup, but what's the trick in moving it when you're up above it? I get what TooheyBirdie is saying, but some folk don't have $100+ to spend on a single stick. I have a single River's Edge stick I modded down from 32" to about 26" but I move through some thick stuff where I hunt is it always seemed to get snagged on branches and what not.

Thinking of using a snap shackle with amsteel rather than tying/untying or using a cam buckle setup:

Not to knock the the knaider/swaider, but I'm looking for a minimalist approach. The K/S seems to be more gear to achieve the same result, IMO.

I just wanted to show you that using one stepp is easy to do. With a cam buckle. Everyone looks down on the lowly cambuckle. It's like a whisker biscuit. It just works good for this application.

solid point.. i actually forgot that a set of 5 steps is like $85 bucks plus shipping.. which is part of the reason i used it this year.

That is what I love about the WE Stepps. They work great, light weight and are pretty inexpensive. I am going to try the cam buckle for 'one stepping' come turkey season. Try it out and see how it works. Just might be a really solid option

Doesn't a cam buckle require two hands? My current setup uses a camlock with a 10mil rope that I can pop with a single hand. Easy peasy.
