2022 Turkey Hunting Thread

Knocking em down here in MI. 3 in 4 hunts. Would be 4 for 4 but my buddy’s neighbor spooked em… This hunt was all about getting out in front of the flock, and gentle calling to a flock of hens With Toms in tow. The hens were very curious.

You’re my hero! That’s awesome man. Btw, nice gun! I Turkey hunt with a vinchi too!
I love that Vinci. He and I have the same gun. its the 3” not the mega super 3.5” lol. I use it for waterfowl turkey and sometimes grouse. Actually it shoots great in trap and skeet too. Really shoots where I’m looking so effortlessly. Light as heck, definitely feel the turkey loads.

That’s what I have too! The 3” non magnum. Didn’t feel the need for the 3.5. Yea, the recoil on the Turkey loads isn’t fun. Thanks fully I’m usually too jacked up too notice

Shot a triple bearded bird Saturday for the PA opener, main beard was 9" even. Figures, first year I don't buy the second tag because I don't have a lot of time I shoot one in the first 2 hours.
Awesome man congrats!! Nothin like them Allegheny Easterns!!!

I have had every gobbler that WAS on my lease leave and they will not come through anymore. Escorted a couple poachers off my lease...again. almost shot me n my dad. Why would you stalk a hen (and im not exactly the worlds best caller). Finally said what the heck and shot a jake after all that. Ended up having a double beard. 20ga turned his skull into mush at 20ydsScreenshot_20220502-125916_Gallery.jpg

I went to cabelas in PA yesterday afternoon to get a replacement turkey vest for season (starts tomorrow). I thought I’d get an extra box or two of turkey shells. OMG, $77 for a box of 5. That is crazy! Thankfully I still have a couple boxes from prior purchases.

Scratching up the pot calls and getting ready. For me turkey is fun, and I can take it or leave it, definitely do not obsess. I’ll be going out with a new hunter and me and another buddy will be doing our best to get him on his first bird. I definitely am excited for hopefully getting the new turkey hunter his first bird, that’s for sure.

Good luck everyone.

We made it happen. My turkey mentor and myself took my buddy on his first hunt in PA. Second gobbler we interacted with and my buddy got his first bird today. I love hearing a fired up gobbler responding to a call.

That's the TSS doin it's thang! It was bleeding like a deer. Skinned the skull to see what it looked like there was about 20 #9 bb's on the opposite side under the skin and the rest went right through. I use a cheap carlsons flush mount turkey choke. Perfect spread for the tss

If you were legally allowed to shoot a bearded hen...would you? Had one with a big old beard today at 6 yds with 3 jakes strutting. Legal in my state. Thought about it!

Bearded hens are legal here too. Can I add a little to your question? Does anyone know if a bearded lady is something they can pass on genetically or is it just chance?

bearded hen or bearded lady? i would think both can pass the trait

She gone in my book
can you fan out a hen tail? theyre just so small and if im hunting for meat i would shoot a jake. if im hunting for tailfans beards and spurs then its a waste. It was about a 7 or 8 in beard tho. I had her on camera earlier this yr i think, could be more than one i guess. my biggest hold back was she is gonna give me more birds to hunt next year.
