Trophyline Venatic Saddle

In my area of NJ I have seen deer stop and stare at black objects probably due to the high bear population.

For those who don't like the black. That looks pretty easy to paint or mark up. Seems for a few bucks in fabric paint you could break it up.

i don't know how i feel about the waist belt that slides around in a sleeve

The phantom has a floating waist belt like that. So really nothing new. It's fine. Doesn't really help or hinder the fit/positioning, IMO.

i'm more wondering if it is a less strong way to attach the belt to the rest of the saddle

i like all those rows of stitching that are webbing on webbing

You're not the only one who doesn't get it. Maybe check out a Wood Hunting Saddle. Trophyline fan, but there's a lot of hype here that seems like hype. Not something I usually associate with Trophyline. Maybe it'll hold up. Still I agree, make a neutral saddle. Feel the same about the TN Blackbelt, but padding at least interests me more than ripstop, even when the rubberized MOLLE seems like a nice add.
Definitely check out Wood Tree Saddles. The most comfortable saddle I’ve sat in, for sure

Not trying to derail the Venatic, but for those turned off by the color, I mention the Original Wood saddle as something that may check some of the same boxes but in a neutral tone. It is very packable as you can see, and quite light as well. Those are two selling points of the Venatic, and reasons I tried an OG Wood. The Wood saddle is very well constructed, and the sewing on the Venatic looks very clean from what I've seen as well.

Obviously rip-stop vs mesh, so a difference there. (TL also mentions narrower support straps, but I don't see specs on width). I'd have to try them side by side to compare comfort, but can say I like the comfort I have in my og wood saddle. I'd love to set in a Venatic given the chance, seems like it's being well received overall.

These dudes are pretty dark most of the time too and can be uncannily tough to see in the fall especially.

The bear and turkey are dark and Mother Nature designed them to be on the ground to be hidden or blend. Black hunting products may blend up in a leafy tree early season or an evergreen.

My point is in a leafless tree on a hardwood ridge in late fall black will stand out when looking up from the ground. Black will just contrast and make it easier to pick out against light gray background.

Black in a pattern like ASAT will work. I am referring to solid black objects. Put a black bear in a leafless hardwood tree and you will see them from a mile away while walking thru the woods.

I am sure people have success in leafless trees with black, but I just prefer earth tone colors when up in a tree…… I feel it ups my odds.
My opinion

my hope would be a small area of black would break up your outline

the only way to try before you buy is to walk around the woods in a black speedo and see if you get arrested

I hear ya brother not necessarily disagreeing but turkeys do fly up to roost every evening and even in the fall gray leafless woods up in trees they can be very tough to pick out sometimes.

the Sidewinder from CGM also has earth tone colors. Mine is the forest green color pattern and I like it a lot. Hearing great things about the Woods and plan to pick one up at some point.

Nothing for or against TL or anything and I’ve owned one of their first saddle offerings when it first came out a couple of years ago after their resurgence andthey are a great company but my point is in the grand scheme of things, I don’t think a black saddle will amount to a bunch of pick offs by target animals.

I agree with your point about turkeys but their feather reflect light which changes shading and they are not flat black to start with. 99% of the lock on stands I have found in the woods was because the horizontal black straps jump out because of the stark color contrast and the horizontal strap compounds that because it is not a natural linear orientation in nature. Probably doesnt bother the deer at all but it bothers me because I dont want to draw the attention of any other hunters going through the woods.

I agree…..Why not just make products for hunting out of trees the shades of colors that are found up in the trees. Especially regarding saddles….. at some point you have to move your body for shots out of a saddle and the black blob moves with you.

Maybe black material is cheaper for a manufacturing standpoint.

Well Boss... The only color we can get is Blue or Black... Would have liked to have been a fly on the wall at that R&D round table.. Black seems like a decision made by a non-hunter

At TAC they said they should have brown next year. Said they could not get the brown material in time. Probably just marketing to sell more next year when everyone wants the brown. That's said I did sit in it for a few minutes and it is very comfortable. I plan to buy when the brown gets released.
