Reading these posts wearing my thong sandals reminiscing on the 8 point I shot under twice at 20 yards then over 3 times at 35 yards all before 10am then climbing down to retrieve at least one arrow to finish the sit!
One season i was pretty stressed at work. Day before gun season I was pounding out this quote to get to the customer. Next morning I was excited to go hunting. But left my gun at home. I was about 10mins away when I realized it. Went back to get it. Missed a chip shot a small doe that morning.I was so tunnel visioned on not forgetting gloves, face mask, hot hands, wool sock and the such, that one freezing cold morning i drove an hour to my hunting spot and realized that i’d left my rifle at home.
Knew the truth would come out if I waited long enough.I shot the Rompola Buck, but after seeing how big it was I called Mitch to come get it because I didn’t want the spotlight that went with it……
Ethanol is the worst. I never run it through anything with a carb. How was the motor running before it stranded you ? With that much trash in the filter I would assume there is more in the carb.View attachment 70153
Just limped back to the launch on the trolling motor. About a 2 hour crawl.
Fuel line up to the filter so crammed wirh varnish you can't make fuel flow. Filter full of it. Seems to be clean on the line from the filter to carb, so that's nice
Ethanol only, and it gets used too much for me to suspect it sat too long. I think the culprit is the 20 year old hose that come with the motor. I assumed that since it was still new in the sealed bag it'd be fine.
I assume otherwise now, and deserve a ribbing
Speaking of shame....I meant to type ethanol-free. I'm getting smooth-brained in my middle age.Ethanol is the worst. I never run it through anything with a carb. How was the motor running before it stranded you ? With that much trash in the filter I would assume there is more in the carb.
My boat gets a new fuel filter every year and new impeller every two years. Cheap insurance to avoid issues on the water. Glad you got it fixed and are back up and running.Speaking of shame....I meant to type ethanol-free. I'm getting smooth-brained in my middle age.
Motor has always run like a cracked-out greyhound. 2002 but I bought it back in early spring still in the box. So it's new. Small 3 gallon tank and I run it frequently and only put gas for the boat in that tank so it never sits long. It may have had some ethanol in it at some point if I wasn't thinking and just pumped regular, but it's never knowingly had ethanol in it.
Long story short, the internal liner in the old fuel line had deteriorated and that's what I was thinking was varnish. Tank was clean and everything on the carb side of the filter was clean. I replaced the bulb, line, and fittings, filled up the tank, and it was back to running like a kid with scissors.
But it kills me that I let that be an issue. I put a new impeller in it because I didn't trust old rubber. Should have bought a new fuel line day 1.
Yep, i try to baby boat motors. If a car breaks down or your lawnmower won't crank that's whatever. If you're 4-5 miles back in the swamp at night with no signal...problemo.My boat gets a new fuel filter every year and new impeller every two years. Cheap insurance to avoid issues on the water. This in your mud motor or did you get an outboard?Yep, i try to baby boat motors. If a car breaks down or your lawnmower won't crank that's whatever. If you're 4-5 miles back in the swamp at night with no signal...problemo.
@swampsnyper called it. I made it 2 seasons with the mud motor before me and my wife got sick of it. I was sick of standing up to run it, and she was sick of the noise. This in your mud motor or did you get an outboard?
Nice. You getting the new carb then?@swampsnyper called it. I made it 2 seasons with the mud motor before me and my wife got sick of it. I was sick of standing up to run it, and she was sick of the noise.
I sold it for about what I have in it thanks to issues importing the kits due to 'rona, and found a 9.9hp 2-stroke merc for an even grand. Weighs less, runs faster, makes less noise, and is more maneuverable for running limb lines.
They built the 9.9s and 15s with the same head. All I need is a $200 carb and I'd have a 15, which should be about perfect. Only weighs 70lbs and pushes me solo with gear about 20mph. The 15 I'd imagine would give me 2-4 more mph, or enough to maintain performance with a 2nd person
Eventually. I've got a list of boat stuff i want. Sarah and I have really got into fishing together. I like to go fast and explore, but she could care less. Trying to get stuff for both of us first. She wants some nice seats and carpet for her feet. Both of us kinda want a side-imaging fishfinder and a powerpole anchor for shallow water bream fishing.Nice. You getting the new carb then?

I don’t know If it is a thing everywhere, but at my buddies hunting camp if you miss they cut your short tail. Or least they say your shirt should be cut,
I bet shipping from PA to AL for that is probably worth more than my whole boat/motor/trailerThere’s a nice 20hp 4 stroke Yamaha for sale on here, that’s what you need.
Elk yinzer has it in the classifieds. It’s a tall transom though.
