I’m riding the struggle bus trying to find this stuff. Bought a new smoke pole and I’m trying to only run this. Anyone have any ideas ?

It has been a battle since Hodgdon bought them.
 
Man after reading these types of posts, it makes me super happy that I bought the big 5 lb jug years ago.

Our Walmart has it periodically. Price is kind of ridiculous now. Fortunately I still have a mostly full jug for muzzleloader season. I’d hate to go back to pellets but I will if I’m forced to.

While you're at it, check and see if the primers they recommend are available. I haven't been able to find any for almost 2 years now. During our early seasons it's warm enough that I don't need them but I'm concerned come the late December season my normal primers won't ignite hot enough.

A few years ago when the shortage of primers just started I couldn't find any small packages so I was forced to buy a brick of them. I'm kinda glad I did now that I know they are still hard to find. I was also able to give my buddy a few packages.

Good deal. Thank you. Again, BP newb so I'm just using pellets this year. Is loose powder more consistent in general, or is it just something about 209?

Powder is more consistent typically. Pellets are way more convenient. Blackhorn 209 is actually almost a powder but it’s really small cylinders. The shape is what makes it burn cleaner. Less powder waste sticking to the barrel which equates to more being burned and sent down the barrel. You can usually decrease the amount you use going to blackhorn and keep the same muzzle velocity.

Pellets work just fine. Killed one last week with pellets. Just a lot more cleaning. I have been shooting triple 7 for years. I can get 2 shots before I have to clean. Just so happens we can only shoot 2 year a day in VA. I have been looking for Blackhorn for months. It is a lot cleaner and harder hitting.
 
Depends on the ML too. A sidelock (cap or flint) should always use loose powder. An inline with shotgun primer can use either, pellets being easier, loose being more consistent IMO.

Assuming the snow holds off long enough for ML season, I’ll be breaking out my Hawkins with 95 grain powder over Buffalo Bore ball-et and Remington #10 caps.

Right on. Thank you. Any combination recommendations on a CVA Wolf? I'm 6 for 6 in a 5.5" circle at 100yds with 2 Hodgdon pellets and a 300gr Hornady SST but I'd like to be better than than.
 
Just me, but I’ve never liked sabots. They never seen to seat consistently. Even with shotgun slugs, I’ve found the sabots shift.

Ballets seen to be the best of both worlds. Babotless yet expand in the barrel negating the need for a patch.

I’ll look and see if I can find a pic.

They are more convenient but Blackhorn burns a lot cleaner. With pellets I had to deep clean my barrel about every 2-3 shots, at least, to maintain accuracy. With Blackhorn I can just run a dry swab every few shots and keep tight groups. But it’s not a huge issue once you have it sighted in. Just annoying at the range spending more time cleaning than shooting.
