Team Johnny 5 is alive!

I actually hunted tonight. That was the 4th hunt of the year! I shot my buck sept 18th… Nearly two months without hunting. It is painful to shoot a buck early.

This guy showed up last week and he’s the biggest we have seen since we moved here 3 seasons ago. Forgive my suboptimal eBay cameras.

I know the feeling. All tagged out and deer everywhere that want to ride in my truck.

Yeah I’m gonna sneak back in there at first light and see if I can get up a different tree In the same region. It’s seriously cold this am (18) and is gonna jump back to 32 mid morning. With a snow event coming tonight I’m hoping for a mid day feeding. Thanks for the encouragement!

Good luck! For what it's worth, I 100 percent agree with Phil's advice, and I'm glad that you're gonna sneak back in! I would do the exact same thing, especially if they didn't wind you. Two times this season I had deer feeding exactly where I wanted to set up. They had no idea what to make of me because of the headlight and just sort of scurried away. In both instances they came back an hour or so later––neither time was I winded on my entrance (and I think this is the key).

One of these times, I had a small six pointer come through an hour after some does walked by. He was sniffing around, and soon started following my ground scent. He walked right to the base of the tree, sniffed where I had pissed, and jumped like it scared him. He never winded me, but the urine smell freaked him right out. The does went on edge the moment they crossed my ground scent. All of that is to say, I would just add to Phil's advice that if I was going to set up in this same area, I would be super careful about where I walked in relation to travel patterns.

Had a big day today. First archery kill (5 seasons in). First kill out of the saddle. First deer in 9 years! Biggest deer I've killed.

Celebrated with a mile drag out followed by some scotch. That should be another 13 points for us! Happy November all!

Wish I could hit like twice on that! Congrats!

I slipped in a new way this morning, along the line my scent has been blowing all day. And of course, discovered an unknown or new pathway they are using to access or leave this feeding area.

Sounds like you found a new way to set up on them!

When you wait all season for the perfect conditions to sneak into a special spot to kill that buck you’ve been after for years, and everything is just right; you know what you don’t wanna hear as you’re setting up!?: PING, as your platform snaps!

I hope you're ok! Is that a Predator? Let us know you're safe!

Very safe. Pissed about the broken platform and the damn noise. But it’s windy as hell today and I’m in a hell of a good location. I’m in a hemlock with lots of branches to stand on, and using a few screw in steps as an additional platform. I’m sitting on a scrape line and am right in a hub of cruising trails where several bucks territory overlaps. And the wind has been steadily blowing in the right direction. So aside from being without a platform, things are as good as they get. Thanks for caring!!

And yes, that was a predator.

It is going to be a hellofa story when you lay the smack-down on a big one! Glad you are ok and are able to continue the hunt!
Damn thing broke while I was caming it into position, so there was no falling involved. I’ve gotta figure out another option for the rest of the season. I’ve got a ring of steps that I can use, but not sure I can handle long / all day sits on them. I’m hoping tethrd will help me out, but I’m probably beyond warranty, so….
