Team Johnny 5 is alive!

Wow that's amazing news! Glad you're in one piece. And most importantly- let us know what you see tonight!
The old boy didn’t come by tonight. But I’m going to sit the same spot in the morning and I have a feeling I’m finally going to put an arrow in him. He and I have a lot of history. I slung an arrow at him last year with the recurve from way too far away. And I’ve had more encounters with him than any other buck, by far. But I shouldn’t get ahead of myself, in three years he’s won every time.

It's cool that you have had so many encounters with the same buck over a few years. Hopefully, you are learning a lot from this guy along the way!

I just shot a spike. He dropped immediately. ATTACH=full]76186[/ATTACH]
Could have shot a second one! But didn’t wanna tag out in my home state this early and on 2 spikes.
Also slung an arrow at a coyote. Not sure if I got the coyote too.

Congrats on the deer! I shoot a spike almost every single year cuz its a ton of good meat! And hey 7 points for your team too! Hope you get to use your other tag on the big boy you've had some encounters with.

Quite a morning. The old whiteface buck didn’t come by, but this spike horn and a button buck were 10 yards away on a scrape. He was stone cold dead within 10 seconds of the hit. It’s pretty amazing what a sharp and well place broad head can do. No sooner did he fall and a pair of coyotes rolled in. I let an arrow fly, but for a clean miss. Following them came another spike! Though he may have been a four point. I couldn’t bring myself to tag out in my home state with 2 spikes. There’s another month and a half! So here we go, more points for the team 5 meat pole!

congrats man! im a huge fan of doing the one stick height hunts too. its just enough to get you above the thicker stuff and see around and its super quick set up and tear down compared to going all the way to 20-30 ft. awesome job on the deer!

Well I've hunted for 8 days straight and have seen my target buck 5 times. He's a buck that showed up last Friday night and is a true once in a lifetime deer, watched him with binoculars at 120 yards again this morning for a while, he was following a doe toward me but she changed directions after coming along the edge I was sitting on. I'm almost positive they bedded shortly after but I left to make it to church. Probably won't make it out again till Thursday morning, hopefully he's still around. I’ve been doing something very similar around here when I’m fully mobile. This year conditions have been all over the place and most of the locations I’ve prepped are not the best places to hunt. And while doing this I’ve found that in many circumstance being 7’ high and backed into some thick cover is just as good for shooting, being concealed and out of line Of sight and most importantly it’s often more stealthy because set up is so quick.

Holy hell! hope you get an opportunity man!

I’ve got over a month left and I’m looking for antlers. Does it still count if I track wearing a saddle and shoot from the ground?! ;)
Same here. ive gotten quite a few does this year and a dink buck. My chances of seeing a big boy in the daylight are getting smaller by the day now. But im keeping that positive mental attitude! We can do it!
