What are you doing during this winter blast?

Work decided to close yesterday so I’m home with the kids and have a few logs on the fire. Been taking the dogs out quickly and testing out my Sitka kelvin wind stopper jacket. It hasn’t disappointed.

The weather the past couple weeks has been a total nightmare, northern NY, 3’ of new snow and cold, it never ends, I had broken equipment stuck up in the woods about 1 mile, turning wrenches while laying in a snow bank and being pounded by snow is always fun… wading through 3’ of snow carrying a chain saw and dragging a cable with chokers is the best exercise on this planet, every tree I dropped this week was like being in a nuclear blast when it was coming over, snow dumping off it making vision next to impossible to the point my escape route was basically a guess at best, the only nice thing I witnessed all week was 3 deer feed and bed down on a fresh tree top I just cut, maple, they fed and bedded right down on it all afternoon, I drove by them a dozen times on the skidder and they never moved an inch, I felt like climbing off my machine and laying down next to them for a nap lol I’ve been so whipped, I told my wife I’m done fighting mother nature for three days, she wins… lowering and raising the recliner will be my only physical exertion the next 3 days!

Regulator setting locked up on a system setting. 157 accounts without any natural gas. Crew was able to hook up an auxiliary trailer to backfeed the system. 16 hour shift getting houses turned back on and pilots relit on customers appliances. Couple that with having to keep100 head of cattle fed this morning with the neighbor's tractor cause mine gelled :rage:.......I'm going back to bed.

I’m sure you have a system already, but I swear by this brand, the red bottle for oh **** moments and the white bottle for preventative treatment, I also have a huge filter on the skid tank in my service truck and it seems to help.

It's my own fault so not much to really complain about except for my own. I added it, didn't run it long enough to get it into the fuel lines/filter. In a rush as usual.

We’re off today and It’s 7degrees here right now and the wind is nasty. Our season is closed until the 26th But I got permission on an unlikely property with a couple of shooters on it. Pulled a cell cam from my main farm and putting it on this new property. It’s almost an urban setting but I’m excited about the possibilities. Brassicas planted in between grape rows so some green and carbs for the deer too. So far the high wind has kept snowfall relatively light so I’m hoping they’ll continue to hit this location.

Temps are dropping as we speak, and it's started snowing. Heavy freeze by tonight... At work now, and Christmas has me hopping tomorrow and Sunday. Hopefully back into the swing of things Monday or Tuesday. I need to put something in the freezer!

I had a vacation day today, but had to go into work for four hours and plow walking paths with an open-cab UTV. When I left the house the temp was 11 below zero (F) with a 25 mph wind, gusting to 40 mph. It was brutal.

Sunday morning will be -2, with a daytime high of 10. I'm making a rib roast on the smoker--I hope I can keep the cook temp up high enough.

New plan: get down with down this weekend. I recently bought a 0 degree sleeping bag/sleeping system as well as a puffy layer in a bit of a spending spree. (And couldn't let the dadjoke opportunity waddle by), so I don't think I'll sleep all night in it but I do plan to test it out this evening if the family plans play along. In case anyone is wondering, the Big Agnes Lost Ranger 3N1 0 degree is what I ended up with, I was debating a few different higher end bags and didn't really have this on the list but had looked into it and then spied this one pretty much half off a few weeks ago and jumped on it. Even if it's not a true 0 degree bag and winds up being more of a 20 degree bag I'll be happy for the price I paid. I may add down booties and a liner if the puffy/bag/pad don't cut it. The ground has dried for the most part and no precipitation expected, temps dropping to single digits should be a good test. I'll likely wear my 400 weight merino underlayer and socks only at first and see if I need to add the puffy.

Once my tent shows up in January I'll do some actual winter camping, I am not quite hardcore enough (yet... hopefully) to sleep in this wind without a tarp/tent.

I think that’s the problem that I’m going to have. My intakes are wide open and it’s hovering around 170 at the grate. So my plan is to just smoke it for a couple hours and then into the oven. The end product is the same from my experience.
