What are you doing during this winter blast?

Like anything else you can spend a lot or a little. I’m in WNY pretty close to the PA border. I always say “set on sign.” Grab some long distance call lure with heavy skunk essence in it especially in the cold late season. Finally, cats love movement and visual attractors. I know guys who use old cd’s wind spinners etc. near your sets

Back home in north Alabama for the holidays and went “hunting” on some public for the first time in Alabama. Got about 40 yards from a pretty big buck chasing some does around and the wind swirled and they bolted. But I mainly just walked some spots on a property getting an idea of access and what it all looks like. May get back out tomorrow but after that it’ll be head down south to the farm and see if the ruts getting started yet or not.

Getting trapping gear in final order gonna try to catch me a bobcat next week. First time trying out trapping. Been thinking about doing it for years got a wild hair and decided this is the year. Just have to dye and wax tomorrow and I'll be off and running on the 26th. I have a lot of spots I've noted over the years but not sure how many I can get to with icy roads. Have a fisher tag also and later in the season may target some beaver although I am more of a land mammal.

Other than that cooking, drinking, and eating. We're hosting the meal this year got a prime rib dry brining today. I'll smoke that on the Weber. Crab cakes, lots of sides. Walleye chowder and shrimp cocktail for lunch. Mise en place and cleaning the place tomorrow

^^^ What time??? :yum:

Thermometer in the north facing backyard reads 24 in the shade and the thermometer in the sun out front reads 55.

Last night I sat in the saddle just shy of 2hr and the wind was whipping the whole time. Layering worked as I hoped...the only unrealistic thing was my socks/feet were dry when I settled in..in a real hunting situation id probably already walked half a day or more and my feet would be wet. I had my heavy socks and Crocs and my feet were fine last night but out in the woods my feet get cold pretty quick in much higher temps than last night with my boots on......so I either pack warm socks/croc and remove boots once settled in and change socks/shoe and attach boot to the trunk somewhere or maybe try those outer insulating bootie things and change socks to get the damp out of the equation and boot up and insulate ....tingly not rubber but foam like a croc they claim to be warmer than rubber...but I just call it a rubber boot for simplicity. Need to make a pro/con list. It's rare I ever have to worry about any of this stuff here but I eventually want to start traveling around a little and not have to learn on the fly.

Another below freeze hammock night...I got that all dialed in. Once all cocooned in it's really warm but can be a little frustrating getting out and back in quick when u wake up in the dark and gotta pee... My outer layer/bag/quilt works great but huge/bulky/heavy which is fine for truck camp but I keep an eye out for good deal on a more lightweight/more packable bag/quilt that isn't crazy expensive.

I think I just except the fact that some of these clothes aren't the most stealthy/quiet cause those expensive clothes aren't realistic for me.... If I just remember to be mindful of my elbows and lower legs and don't make quick movement I feel pretty confident it's all good for close quarter bow hunts

SE Florida here...was 84 yesterday, 39 this morning and 54 for today's high. Expecting 36 tomorrow and highs in the upper 40s. Should be plenty of dead iguanas dropping from the trees and dead pythons in the wetlands!!!
Do u eat them? I always hear they are delicious but never had an opportunity to try

nope, their not as common inland this far north yet, more coastal. Go 20 miles south and they have moved inland. I hear it's all in the prep work and that they can be tasty or not....

You guys are talking eating snakes, right? Probably a dumb question, feel free to make jokes at my expense

Having to pee is the worst when hammock sleeping. kills me every time I swear

Not a lot of luck on my line, apparently we got too much rain Thursday night and froze up most of my traps and had some coyotes dancing all over a couple sets. Did have 4 possumsicles though yesterday.

Got my first one of these today though
