For you guys using a Ambush. Are you using the buckle attachment? I was wondering if a Amsteel daisy and truckers hitch would work?
Any other suggestions?

I use the Amsteel daisy (or USA attachment) and truckers with my Ambush (and Pred XL) and it works great. With the Ambush you can't really use the full advantage of the truckers mechanical advantage as it gets too tight, you just have to pull enough to find the sweet spot, cam it over and lock it down.

I do not use a buckle for several reasons. 1st. Buckle straps are rated for about 1600lbs. I actually broke a strap while bouncing on my platform at ground level. 2nd No metal. No noise. I have an 8' pc of Resc. Tech and a Michoacan hitch. Wrap it around the tree, tuck it behind the rope at the post, (work the slack out), then back to the hitch in truckers hitch, pull tight, back around the ropes again and then tie a series of 1/2 hitches on the side that has the Meech. I carry it like purse w/ the rope and tag end is tied in a daisy chain.

Yikes. I have a lot of hunts out of LW hang-ons with a single cam buckle strap and no safety harness. Thank goodness I found saddle hunting (except for the various ways I can make that dangerous too, lol).

If you don't mind sharing, where did the strap fail? What brand/manufacturer?

Thanks.

I know a guy that took a bad fall a couple weeks ago. Story I got was the stand broke. I am not sure what part but my guess is either a cable or the strap. Either way the fall left him with a broken neck. Not paralyzed but the break was such that as I understand it the Dr's decided the surgical risk would likely result in paralysis so he was sent home to heal the old fashion way. Big ol dump truck load of suck.

You are about to get me on a soap box. Why would anyone feel entitled to compensation for their own stupidity? Freakin ambulance chasin lawyers. No one should be compensated for being or doing stupid stuff like putting a hot cup of coffee between their legs or climbing a tree without being tied in the whole time.

I was experimenting on how get the platform tighter. On smaller trees the platform cams over nicely and is really solid. However I hunt really big trees. The platform doesn't get as tight as I would like. It tends to kick out w/ side pressure. I added a 2nd strap to the tabs on platform to see if that would solve the kick out issue. By doing this you can get it really tight. Too tight! Most of the tension was on the bottom strap. Anyway as I was playing around w/ this, I started bouncing and it snapped. Cut right at the buckle. I was only 1' off the ground so no big deal. Still not good though. So I started looking for a better way to get it tight after that.

I just received an Ambush. Haven’t hunted it yet but I have been practicing setting it up at low height. I requested the second strap so I’d have the option to attach to the tabs as you mentioned.

My question is did you attach the second strap after locking the platform down with a single strap on the button? Or did you attach both straps before locking down the platform?

Sorry if my question isn’t clear. Trying to understand if you used the second strap as a backup after the stand was already locked down or as part of the initial lock down process. Thank you.

Use it as a backup, any large platform will fold up like cheap toilet paper if you stand behind the pivot point, my Mission did this to me once and that was all it took for me to start running a second strap, I now use an Ambush 90% of the time and I always run a second strap, after you cam it down on the tree…. the Ambush is even more susceptible to kicking out when weighted behind the pivot point due to the forward location of the post on the platform, a second strap eliminates any chance of this, I actually use a short rachet strap on my Ambush and crank that sucker down, I don’t like any movement in my platform, it’s like standing on a concrete block the way I do it.

How do you weight a mission behind the pivot point?

Hope it’s cool to ask here but why does the ambush look huge to me? The dimensions are really close to the mission which I had but everything I see makes the ambush look huge. Am I missing something? Anyone have a picture of the ambush and mission side by side? Or what about a ambush stacked on top of a .5? The lone wolf fever is bad. Haha

I think part of it the mission has that massive step above the post which takes away some shin space when standing upright. The EDP is pretty similar to the fix as well but for some reason ( the large plastic step maybe) the fix just feels roomier to me.

That lady had skin grafts, and I don't think the settlement hurt ole Ronald that much.

Not arguing that we aren't a litigious society, but that case may not be the best example.

She flash seared the ol cooter because she put a cup of hot coffee between her knees and took the lid off. Any reasonable person would have or at least should have thought, this prolly aint the best idea. Coffee is sold to drink, not wear. She used the product she bought in a fashion outside it's intended use. Folks need to own their decisions. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
