I drove in today to a spot I know no one has hunted since before Christmas because no one else has been silly enough to try to drive back there. I wasn't sure I was going to get in there (or out for that matter) but I managed somehow. Snow was really heavy and wet from the thaw but still up to a foot deep in spots. With only a day left I thought what the heck, I'll give it a try. Then I had to wade across an overflowed creek from the thaw we've had. Luckily I managed to stay dry ( I think I had about two inches of freeboard on my boots).

There's a ton of fresh tracks back in there but I ended up only seeing three all around 75 yds away in the last 10 minutes of shooting light. I'm guessing most all activity is after dark still.

I love the hunting the second season as far as the weather goes. The only issue is the deer are just so skittish after the orange army overruns them.

Wow! There's still a few pockets of snow here and there but it's pretty well all melted already here!

Is Pa. No Sunday Hunting?

Kinda - There are three legal Sundays for deer. Basically one in Archery, one in Bear and one in Rifle. Right now we are in "Late Archery" and Flintlock and you can't hunt deer on Sundays.

You can hunt Crow, Beaver, Coyote, Foxes, Mink, Muskrat, Opossum, Raccoon, Striped Skunk and Weasels today though.

They keep talking about fixing our silly rules but change is slow. 2023 will be the first year you can buy a doe license online despite being able to buy buck licenses online for a long time. so silly.

All kidding aside I think those are all specifically named so trappers can legally dispatch on Sundays but here in NY If you have a trapping license you can dispatch without the need of a small game license unless the animal gets out of the trap and starts running then you also better have your small game hunting license. I would think most en-con officers would understand if something like that happened especially to a kid.

Photo was taken 2 hours after I found him, so the daylight is a little different. Still light IMO. He had a black and white skunk stripe on his brisket too, which I’ve never seen but is apparently a trait of some older deer around these parts. He definitely seems lighter than usual for this time of year, I agree.
The only thing wrong with this picture, @DelaWhere_Arrow , is that Bruins cap! Go Sabres!!!

I took my time and tried really hard focus on my shot and make sure it was good but I still didn’t do great. Shot way back… despite the poor shot he was dead and down 30 yards away in less than 30 seconds. Not sure what exactly hit that killed him so quick. Small deer but first with the traditional bow. Arrow didn’t pass through A61709B0-C28E-4E17-9BE8-AFEAE45EA769.jpegA13DA8EA-F1AC-458B-9BE3-3B6B7013D8AD.jpeg2013877F-65E4-4B7C-87A6-4EFD763D3330.jpeg

I’d like to sit a little bit longer and try for a doe. It’s 60 here today and overcast. Should I go gut him and climb back up or go get the meat asap. Will he be ok for a bit?
