The only problem I have with the cork method is most of the cheap wine I drink has a screw top!
just put the tacks in the empty wine bottle and screw the cap back on.

What color tape is that? I like this idea.
Cool idea...keep it way away from your phone and GPS in your bag....I started messing around with some rare earth magnets and I think it just might be the ticket.
I need to figure out the best size and a configuration that will allow maximum capacity.
Seems like 3D printing could mesh very nicely with this concept.
What I like about the magnet is that the tacks are not in a container with a lid that constantly need managed, and these can't be spilled.
I would be very interested to see a well-executed mechanical thumbtack dispenser. Maybe some sort of belt-feeding mechanism, like a cap gun, or white-out tape dispenser? I'm quite happy with my wine cork, but clever, well-executed, intricate 3D printed designs are always cool to look at.Cool idea...keep it way away from your phone and GPS in your bag....
Ba dum bump!!!You could stick them into this and wear it into the woods...

... Although that might look a little tacky.
Reminds me of the time I ran thru a hawthorn patch.
Better than a corn field...Reminds me of the time I ran thru a hawthorn patch.
I asked the same question and everybody said tacks are stupid and just use ur phone.....with little tacks like that i normally do 2 per tree 1on the coming and 1 on the going and I figure a marked tree every 15-20yds in dense woodsQuestion:
How many tacks on average would be adequate to carry for setting up one stand?
Would 32 be enough?
If they want to rely on their phone that's okay.I asked the same question and everybody said tacks are stupid and just use ur phone.....with little tacks like that i normally do 2 per tree 1on the coming and 1 on the going and I figure a marked tree every 15-20yds in dense woods
# of tacks?
I am making some reusable trail marker and was thinking about how many tacks or peices of flagging tape I would average. I think I average maybe 10-15....how about u guys? How many tacks or tape do u think u average on a given hunt....I'm good with a compass but certain situations call for...saddlehunter.com
Are you talking about something that wouldn't use a magnet? Most of the non magnet ideas that I've considered would require the user needing to "pick" the tack out of the holder. That was one of the issues I have with corks or balls.@Allegheny Tom after seeing your magnet pic above I had vision. How about using a mold for lead strap decoy weights but pouring it with silicon? You could insert tacks down the narrow edge on both sides and would have a loop on one end to clip to a carabiner. Light, flexible, should hold tack securely and would have lots of options for carry. Just a thought. I have a mold for the strap weights somewhere. I will look and see if I can put my hands on it.
Yeah, I was thinking not use the magnet at all. Maybe the magnets are way stronger than I am giving them credit but from here it looks like the magnet would need to be carried in something else to keep from brushing them off going through the woods, etc. With the silicon, you would have to pull them out similar to a cork but the advantage being the material is way more pliable so you could give a little squeeze below the head and lift them out rather than using a finger nail to dig them out of cork. Depending on terrain, 64 should get you a long freakin ways. I figure you are plenty good enough woodsman to not need one every 20 yards like a lot of the knuckleheads around here put up.Are you talking about something that wouldn't use a magnet? My ideas for design with a magnet allows the tack to be removed by just sliding it out. Could probably even do it with gloves on.
I may have access to some industrial grade plastic bar (1"×1") and machine it to somewhat of a modified "H" shape. The tacks would be super secure and a 4" piece would hold up to 64 tacks...probably more than needed.
My machinist neighbor is checking his shop for the plastic.
