Life Line Type Ropes for Tether/Lineman vs. High Dollar Prefab

Knots are fine. Muddy lifeline plenty heavy strong but I recall it is pretty stiff. Ditto on making sure equipment is sized to rope. A good deal on a tether is the Kook brand. A bit overkill in size but ready to go as is or add Ropeman for easier adjustment. Here I am using it with...

Sticks and Aiders - Use Both or Just sticks?

I'm going to try single sticking it for scouting locations for sure. Rappelling gear is arriving too late for this season but I'll get lots of practice on some trees I need to take down.

Sticks and Aiders - Use Both or Just sticks?

Hawk HSP. I also have the Hawk mini platforms but prefer this because it is faster and one less thing to carry into the woods. You definitely want to add the grip tape to it. It is smooth, slippery and squeaky without the tape.

Sticks and Aiders - Use Both or Just sticks?

I got into saddle hunting because of hunting on public land. I often want to hurry back to the same spot for a few hours of hunting so I keep the top two sticks at a location and just haul in the lower stick and aider. Very fast to get up and hunt that way.

Hawk Helium sticks and HSP platform value leader.

It is a small platform so it is no harder than stepping up to any other step. Just like with any other platform you should do it while strapped into a lineman's belt.

Sticks and Aiders - Use Both or Just sticks?

I’m not sure where you are hunting but in most places I hunt higher isn’t better because then you start having branch interference in your shooting lanes. I find 12-15 feet is about as high as I usually go. I can do that with 3 sticks and an aider I leave on the bottom stick. I have a...

Rope mod for Hawk Helium sticks

The negative reviews on that HF winch rope are downright frightening. I think I'd rather pay a bit more for a reliable Amsteel source. "In a pinch I bought this product for the winch on my 4 Wheeler to lift a 75lb snow plow as the steel cable broke after 4 years of use. I bought this one and...

Hawk Helium sticks and HSP platform value leader.

I almost bought a couple different rope systems. Then I thought...”Hmmm...wonder if the included strap would work?” It did and was free. :) I use a purchased 5 step aider looped over the button to get me at a 6 foot starting height and then just two more sticks but I definitely want to try the...

I’m happy with the pins so far but you are correct. It’s never coming off so bolts are an option.

A pair of push pins. But it slides over the stick so the pins are just for retention, not weight bearing. The platform flexes a little but doesn’t make any noise. I move all around on it including leaning against the edges which is why I wrapped the tape over the sides. I initially bought...

Knot not needed. Stays in place with the second wrap and much easier to tear down than fighting a half hitch knot.

Really strange how they made the surface smooth on both their small platforms. My boots would squeak loudly when I adjusted my position. Not very conducive to whitetail hunting! The tape completely fixed that issue and the added grip is a bonus.

Hawk Helium sticks and HSP platform value leader.

I wish I knew what I know now before spending as much as I have on climbing hardware and stands. Having said that, with a few mods the Hawk Helium sticks and HSP platform make a great value starter set. You can find a 4 pack of 2 foot sticks for $100-110 on sale. The HSP platform will runs...

    Knee Pads

I have tried knee pads but they were kind of a pain to get fit correctly over winter clothes and to walk with. Putting them on up in the stand was one more thing to get just right and noisy. I saw a YouTube video where the guy attached a piece of foam to the tree directly. He used a piece of...

Rope mod for Hawk Helium sticks

I was about to order rope for the rope mod but then I tried just using the original strap from the Hawk Heliums without the clamp portion. It works perfectly. Apparently, I'm not the only one who tried this with success. Here is a video. I didn't use the half hitch...instead I wrapped it...
