I have to see the main bark of the tree. Can you snap a pick of the fruit with a quarter or something next to it to get a sense of the scale?
 
It could be crab apple or hawthorn too is it a tree or a more of a shrub? The fruit looks a little too dark to be hawthorn though.
 
Yeah I can see it may be a crabapple too, picture isn't super clear.

If the fruit has a bud on the bottom it's a crabapple/apple/hawthorn (Rosaceae family).

It looked smooth on the bottom to me, if so (drupe family) it's a wild plum.
