    Picked off when leaning?

I have been tempted to do that; use the ghillie, but have not yet. I have been using the full leafy with headset and face camo. I probably should have tried the ghillie, but the leafy fits easily in my pack and can be put on right before I climb.

How long does it take you to set up?

Well there are lots of good responses here. My goal is to be able to get in the tree and have my gear and bow in the tree within 20 minutes, which sounds very doable.

How long does it take you to set up?

I know this is not a race, and that safety comes first. But since I am a rookie this year, I would like to get some idea how long it takes you on average from the time you get to the tree until you are completely ready to go; that is bow in hanger and loaded, all gear where you want it, and...

Some good stuff here. Thanks for taking the time.

    Picked off when leaning?

One way I failed was that I failed to try to maintain the tree between me and the deer. In one of those cases the deer came in across the tree from me. But as it moved around to my strong side, I did not move with it. I believe I could have gotten by with slow small movements around the tree...

    Picked off when leaning?

Twice now I have had deer come in at an angle at which they could see me leaning away from the tree. There was not a ton of cover from the direction they approached. I am wearing leafy ASAT and camo my face. Any suggestions about how you guys handle this? Our deer are pretty nervous all the...

    Mississippi saddle hunters

Well, if it makes you feel better, I changed for the same reason. At 70, that climber is just too much of a pain. Also, the wide range of trees with cover you can get in is a huge plus.

This is my first year to saddle, and it has been great. I am in Clinton.

Best all around knee pads for saddle hunting.

This is me. This is my first year. I bought the Arctex. I found them to be loud and bulky. Then I bought the Trophylines. I found them much better, but my preference is to put them on at the truck and wear them in. When I did that they caught on vegetation and made noise. I then went to...

    Another rookie question on aiders

Thanks a bunch for all the suggestions. I have not explored rappelling and need to do so. I will definitely do that. That alone may help as I could then use a two step aider. Most of my hunts are PM so I am coming down in the dark. Again, maybe the rappel will help with that. Can anyone...

    Another rookie question on aiders

I turned 70 this year and this is my first saddle season. I have so far really enjoyed it. I am presently using a versa aider with Hawk Helium full length sticks. I tried putting the wire aiders on each stick, but found I had a little trouble finding them in the dark coming down. The versa...

Rookie question on boots and saddles

Well thanks so much for a lot of good ideas. I am not knowledgeable enough to call the shot on rubber and sent, but I can simply say I have used these for over 30 years and cannot remember a time when a deer was alerted by my entrance path. I do appreciate the comments though and will give...

Rookie question on boots and saddles

I have bow hunted for 35 years now. This is my first year to saddle hunt. I turned 70 this month. So far I have really enjoyed it. I live in MS, so we don't have to deal with severe cold weather. I learned early on that knee high rubber boots are very, very helpful in minimizing scent left...

    New Saddle user question

Yes, I would wear the saddle in, and if I decide to use the fixed position stand, just hook up the tether and bridge combo. I do have a ropeman 1 for my tether adjustment. I also have a second caribiner attached to the prusic knot on the tether that came with the harness which I am hooking up...

    New Saddle user question

This is my first year to saddle hunt. I have some fixed positions stands, but intend to do more run and gun with the saddle. I would like to wear my saddle in to my fixed position stands and take my sticks so that on a whim I could set up in a different tree or maybe even slightly different...
