    Favorite seldom discussed deer food

I had a hickory tree this year that hung onto it's nuts into the first couple weeks of November. It was on fire with activity, I can't believe I never noticed before. Never thought deer cared for them, but they were eating them all hours of the day. Some amazing all day sits on that tree this year.

If Santa brought you one hunting piece of gear. What would it be?

I thought it was a wise choice because it would make the family happy 300 days out of the year ;)

    Critique my Purchase Plan

Just need a pack of some sort to carry sticks and platform, right? You could definitely consider looking used there to save money.

    You are being watched.

I lol'd when I saw "bed with poops". I hope you get em! I've found these after the fact and knew in fact that I had probably walked by that deer. I once found one of these and when I laid in the bed there was only one vector the buck couldn't see, and it would have been very challenging to...

    youth hunting: how young?

With a 4 year old, there's a lot you can do, such as counting squirrels, birds, spiders, etc. There's a lot out in the woods that we overlook but is fascinating to kids.

    youth hunting: how young?

To concur with some other commenters, if I only had public l would focus on afternoons, walking out with plenty of time and explain and point out every bit of sign I saw, then I'd pick a spot that wouldn't bugger up anyone else's hunt because IMO the most important thing is to leave the minute...

What is this on this deer?!

It looks like he was hit by a car and his organs changed places! That's crazy.

    Hunting solely for food

I would definitely stick with a bow or crossbow with the thought that it might have a lesser amount of meat spoilage. Also, if I was harvesting a lot of animals, even if legally, I wouldn't want to alert game and other hunters to my presence any more than necessary. I would probably need to get...

What is your favorite predator and stick attachment method?

Maybe you should look at the predator pack w/ strap upgrade. About as minimal as you can get. Holds sticks well.

    Apples, apples everywhere

So many apples on my trees is SW MI the limbs are breaking off. Seem to be less buggy than any year I can remember too. Must have just been a perfect storm for growing conditions.

What is your favorite predator and stick attachment method?

With the webbing straps the key is that you must angle the stick/platform when attaching and then straighten and pull tight. You can also use the same technique the amsteel daisy chain guys use to loop back through a loop and take out the slack.

What is your favorite predator and stick attachment method?

That's what you'd be looking at w/aiders on every stick.

What is your favorite predator and stick attachment method?

I use the daisy chain webbing from EWO. Light, simple, quiet and super cheap. Rock solid on the tree.

How often do you hunt out of a treestand?

I've got a ladder stand I use 3-4 times a season when I'm feeling lazy. Sometimes you just want to be in the woods, you know? :)

    Urban hunt

It sounds like you're applying for a park-type deal. I do one of those and what I'll say is that your typical scouting/patterning might not apply because of the extra non-hunting pressure. I was very surprised to find bucks walking around mid-day. I think people that draw those hunt early and...

What do you consider an acceptable 40yard group to feel confident on an animal.

I honestly have a hard time picking a spot with my pin at 40. I think that's your big issue. The pin is going to cover so much of the animal that you are basically aiming for center mass. I recommend practicing shooting these groups at a completely blank target, since nothing in the woods has a...

    **Urgent** Is this Safe?

For reference, this is what the dyneema winch line on my quad - which is actually fraying - looks like. I agree with others, yours looks like the end of the bury coming out.
