1st time single sticking

I'm 57 and just got my ewo1 stick last January. I have since put the UP platform on it. I timed myself last February and was at the 12 minute mark, going up 25 ft. and rappelling down. I still don't have the system nailed down just yet, but I should be fairly proficient by the end of the season. I use three rubber fender washers (1/4" X 1 1/2") on my rappel line (Cannon CI V). 1 to hold my D ring in place and two to grab and pull my tethered loop up the tree.

This is a good way of saying what is good safety advice… on youtube you see a lot of loose ropes while one sticking, good to keep as little slack as possible. Also two zipties or something similar allow you to advance your tether without putting your fingers inside the danger girth.
Went to a stiffer linesman rope so i could “flip” it up instead of putting fingers behind tree. The whole move your tether while in an aider thing just didn’t work for me. Maybe I’m just an idiot tho…

A few things that I have learned that made one sticking easy.

When I climb I have tether coming off the low side of the tree so I am not fighting gravity moving my stick. Stick to my left. Sometimes I can’t do this but this is the easiest way.

Capturing the stick with the tether to be “hands free” puts lots of wear on the rope and gives you an ab workout. You lose height per move also. Dont do it…

I only climb to the bottom step of the stick. Only use the top to stand when hunting. That requires less bending to reach the stick… ie less effort.

I climb with with my stick to the left of my tether with my tether off to the lower side if there is one. I climb my aider up to my lower step. advance my tether, then weight my tether then get off the stick to the right. Pull my stick off move it up to the left of my tether right under the where the tether is going around the tree and repeat.
