20% off Orvis, includes Crispi boots

Thanks for the heads up! I had crispis in mind for a long time, finally pulled the trigger. 20% is great! Ended up going with the valdres. Had my eye on Lapponias, but after reading the description, realized they probably wouldn't have been the best for the hilly terrain in southern Kentucky. $65 more for the valdres, designed for steep terrain. Just hoping the 11 1/2 fit. In between 10 1/2 and 12 depending on the shoe.

For those of you who chose the Valdres over the Nevada’s, any reason on foregoing the ABSS ankle support system?

I am expanding out of 100% swamps to add some hilly / mountain hunting.

Thx

Well got my Valdres in already. Pretty happy with the shipping.
First glance, boots look sweet! Did a quick town trip in them and they feel really good.

just hoping they hold up!

The Nevadas clearly said they wouldn’t ship until 7/14 when I ordered them but, I got an email the next day that they shipped. They are supposed to be here tomorrow. Just got confirmation that I drew my elk tag today also. I’m hoping my boot search is finally over so I can get them broken in.

Well, ovis.com did not have wide boots (I take 13 wide). So I went to blackovis.com. They had 10% off if you sign up for their mailing list and first time buyer. I signed up. I Then made calls to Crispi and to blackovis.

Blackovis rep told me he could give me 15% off if I make a phone order. So, after a few days of google-fu and rockslide searching, I ended up ordering the kenai uninsulated (blackovis special made by Crispi, which is a Nevada but with full grain leather rather than nubuck) and wild rock gtx plus (800 gram insulation). I decided to not hunt exclusively swamps and my decades old Rocky boots have given up the ghost.

The guy at blackovis said they get commission. I guess that is why he was able to offer me the 15% with a phone order. I created an account online and put the boots in a wish list online. When I called him, he created the order from my wish list. He even threw in 2 pairs of their Crispi knockoff merino socks for free.

Now I wait until they get delivered to break them in.

I'll be interested in your thoughts on the WildRock Plus.

Folks really like those Crispi merino socks, btw.

I will be sure to update once I spend some time breaking them in and during later season. The regular wild rock are 400 gram. The guy told me as an eastern whitetail stand hunter, the 800 would be better. My Rocky’s are 800, so I went with them. From what he was telling me, the regular wild rock are more for still hunting.

I was quoted 7 to 10 business days for delivery.

Dont get too excited about the insulation. It's not actually 800 grams. The lining in the boot is what Crispi says is the equivalent of 800 grams. Anything under 40 in them my feet freeze. Even with heavy socks. I more love them because of the fit. They have a wide roomy toe box, clearly designed so your toes can move in colder weather with heavy socks. But, they lock down snug in your arch and heel area, so they're incredibly supportive. You couldn't possibly roll an ankle in them

Congrats on the tag! Heck, I almost would have tried the nevades had I known that. Hope u like them!

Thanks for the heads up.

I wonder if it was worth it to the the plus or if the regular wild rock are even worse in cold weather. I do have boot blankets, so I guess I will carry them in the cold weather.

What do you do to mitigate cold feet in late season?

I prolly should get another pair because by the time I need them, they wont be available anymore just sure as any thing.
When I was buying my Nevada's at about the same time this thread was started, the guy told me there is a company out west that will resole them. He said a couple years ago it was around $90.

That's the part I was curious about. I have the Lathrop and Sons Mountain Hunter Warm boots and they are fantastic, but only 200g primaloft. I had no problems into the 30s, but I need boots for down to zero and below as well. I'll probably try Hoffman Double Insulated Mountaineer pacs or Schnee Extremes.

Boots came in today. As much as I like the boots, my toe is jammed up against the front of the boots. Even when I have my foot pushed back so the heel is against the boot. I usually take 13-1/2 extra wide. Historically no one provides half sizes past 12-1/2. In the past, I have lucked out with generous length and generous width 13 wide foot gear, but not so with the crispi’s.

I am in a no man’s land wrt shoe sizes. No one that I know of makes 13-1/2 super wide boots, and most I cannot find 14 wide.

Best I can find is the lathrop boots. And no sales on these bad boys.

Good news for those that fit well in the nevadas is that blackovis is now running a 20% sale for Father’s Day on the Nevadas.

Anyone have any recommendations for wide toe box boots where I can get a 13-1/2 wide or 14 wide??
