Figured we could do a scouting report thread. Kinda a post season "live from the stand" replacement.
I've gone out several times in the last month, each from a kayak. I have found that creeks feeding into lakes and rivers can really get me away from the crowds. Just today, me and @Scoutman kayaked in and covered 6 miles of ground and found 7 locations to come back and set trees up. All the while, we found absolutely ZERO human sign. That's dang near impossible to do here in northeast Texas with all the hunters out of the DFW area (7+ million population). Several spots looked like deer and pig superhighways though. This year has really driven home how little sign bucks lay down in this area. Our common rubs are on 3/4"-2" saplings which are very easy to pass up or ignore due to size. Low deer densities are what I think are the cause of this. 2 years of good rains have made for some very healthy deer, and antlers this year show it. Hopefully some sheds will come along with the scouting in the next few weeks.
